I just got an idea for a new poll.

Which Estonian coins do you like more?

1 kroon 1934:

I think you guys should rename 'Kroon' to 'Karl'

'I have 70.000 Karl in the bank!'

'One soda that will be 15 Karl!'

...anyway I like the first coin from 1934 with the ship

I have one coin from the 1st Estonian republic(the 1934 one), my great grandmother gave it to me. In my opinion the current 1 kroon coin looks kind of plain, compared to the old 1 kroon coin.

I agree, the same goes for some of the European banknotes. the Deustchemark in the 20's and 10's looks like art in comparison to later versions.

Before 1928, btw, Estonian money was called Mark, like money in Finland and in Germany.
I like the Marks more than Kroons. They look old and romantic (although I know financists know nothing romantic (but I am not a financist:D)

Well, the kroon is true Estonian money. Estonia didn't have time and the resources to make a money reform right after gaining independence. Thus the reason why Estonia got the kroon in 1928.

I certainly like the coin with the ship the most!

By the way, we also have this 1 kroon coin currently in use:

My father owns this 5 Lati because he collected coins as a schoolboy and I liked to look at his collection when I was a schoolboy.
This old Latvian pieci lati is my favourite coin then and now.

I recommend creating a new thread dedicated to Latvian money. As the Estonian kroon is more related to the Swedish krona, Danish krone, Norwegian krone etc, than to the Latvian lat(it isn't related to it). You get my point. :) Latvia has the lat and Lithuania has the litas.
