Boulogne-sur-Mer : Pas-de-Calais (Boulonnais)
Le Boulonnais constituait la partie maritime de la véritable Picardie, terre-frontière entre le bassin parisien et les terres germaniques. Le terme de picard a d'ailleurs l'origine une signification "ethnique" : il s'agit de désigner les romanophones au Nord de l'Île-de-France. La langue picarde laisse d'ailleurs entrevoir un possible substrat germanique (maintien des consonnes initiales latines dans le groupe ca), ce qui est en conformité avec l'appartenance à la Gaule Belgique de cette région. Au demeurant, la toponymie de la région de Boulogne est sans appel quant au caractère néerlandais ancien de la zone : Maninghen, Echinghen, Bazinghen, Hervelinghen, ... Boulogne se dit Bonen en néerlandais.
Boulonnais was the maritime part of true Picardy, a border-country inbetween Paris and Germanic lands. The very term of "Picard" had initially an ethnic meaning : it designated the Romance speakers which inhabited lands North of Île-de-France. The Picard language's phonetic characteristics might hint to a remote Germanic substrate (Latin initial counsonants such as "ca" are maintained) which match the Belgian past of the area. Placenames in the surroundings of Boulogne (Bonen in Dutch) were obviously formed in the Dutch language : Maninghen, Echinghen, Bazinghen, Hervelinghen, ...

Une variante intéressante qui fait transition avec le second type est caractérisée par un nez convexe : c'est le type le plus fréquent dans la zone étudiée. Les yeux sont très distants chez les femmes et nous rappellent certains types "germaniques" rencontrés en Moselle.
An interesting variant which is transitional with type 2 is characterized by a convex nose : this is this area's most abundant type. Eyes are quite distant amongst women and remind us of "Germanic" types found in Moselle.

Il s'agit du pendant classique du premier type dans la France septentrionale. Une variante dite trivialement à "tête chevaline" accuse des traits ethniques que l'on peut dire "flamands" à défaut d'un terme plus idoine : complexion plus foncée, traits du visage mieux marqués, petite bouche, nez droit, ... (voir : Flandre).
This is a classical counterpart to Type 1 in those areas. A variant - trivially named "horsy face" - visibly shows strong ethnic traits that one can label as "Flemish" failing a proper term : darker complexion, well defined facial traits, a rather small mouth, straight nose, ... See Flanders.
