Ahead of the arbitration tribunal's decision, Slovenia hopes that the European Union, the United States and Russia will pressure Croatia to accept the verdict.

In addition to presidential elections in the autumn, the “arbitration story” with Croatia will be the central political event in Slovenia in 2017, reports the Slovenian media, adding that Slovenia could be helped by certain international factors, such as good relations between Ljubljana and Moscow, and the fact that wife of US President-elect Donald Trump is a Slovenian, reports Večernji List on January 4, 2017.

“With little risk we can expect that the verdict of the arbitration tribunal, which is expected mid-year, will be the main story of 2017”, wrote Darijan Košir, deputy editor of Slovenian daily Dnevnik.

The verdict will have significant legal consequences for both countries, but its final implementation will be possible only with “external intervention of a third party”, wrote Košir who was director of the Slovenian Government Information Office during the government of Prime Minister Borut Pahor from 2010 to 2012.

Based on the published transcripts of telephone conversations between former Slovenian arbiter Jernej Sekolec and a representative of Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Simona Drenik, it can be assumed that the ruling about the border dispute between Croatia and Slovenia will go in the direction of a “compromise”, meaning that Slovenia will probably get most of the Bay of Piran and an access to international waters, while Croatia will get Sveta Gera hill and some other disputed locations along the land border, wrote Košir. It is estimated that this could meet most of the goals of Slovenian “mainstream” politics, but not some of the demands of more ambitious nationalist circles.

Slovenian diplomatic sources say that the country is intensively preparing for the moment when the verdict will need to be implemented, and that there are several options for resolving the situation, in which it will benefit from several international factors.

“First of all, the main sponsor of the arbitration agreement is the European Union, so Croatian disregard of the verdict would represent an expression of no confidence in the patron of the arbitration proceedings, in a situation where the EU cannot allow to be seen expressing preference for one member over another”, wrote the analyst.

Another favourable circumstance is that “Russia, due to Slovenia’s smart policies in recent years, is undoubtedly an ally of Slovenia, and due to errors made by Zagreb is openly opposing Croatia”.

Thirdly, “it is hard to believe that new US President Donald Trump, whose wife is from Sevnica in Slovenia, would decide to support Croatian arguments”, concluded Košir.

Why do you think that?

ts only a political spin in Croatia to gain votes for HDZ.

After the tape leak and contamination of the arbirtration process both left and right wing in Croatia decided to exit the process. We have willingly entered the process in a good hope before witnessing Slovenian side not obeying the rules of arbitration.

Why do you think that?

Well, it was an already lost battle before it even began. Your politicians only instigated a belief in public media that there is something to be gained, but there isnt.

There is nothing "contaminating" in that tape, that judge only said that Slovenian arguments are stronger and that they will win anyway, which they will, one way or another. There are no arguments from Croat side.

We entered the arbitration willingly because of annoying Slovenian politicians. For years they seem to act like they are on Putin's payroll.

Arbitration judge and governmemt official having a conversation is by itself just wrong and forbidden (and lobbying for other judges) no wonder it was a scandal and why they resigned.

Regarding the topic I doubt his wife gives a shit about 'several square meters' of land. Since this is about the personal level both of them have good Croatian friends and associates. Most importantly, Kitarovic was in NATO for years, she will serve American interests and I doubt they would compromise the country to country relationship because of a wife. But, yeah, I think it all comes down to what America would gain with Russians. It always comes down to disgusting geopolitics.

American foreign policy is based on well thought-out, long-term plans. Just laughing at anyone who thinks president can be a deciding factor.

No, why should they give you anything when its not yours to be given in the first place? I am not going to post documents and maps to prove something, because there is nothing to prove, its retarded. If anything, Slovenians could put a claim over Croatian territory. Slovenian politicians had nothing to do with arbitration, it was only a suggestion. Croatian politicians could simply acknowledge the borders for the sake of good neighbourly relations instead and move on. But like said, its a political manouver launched from HDZ playing on Branitelji strings. It was back then during Janša-Sanader(Jelinčić, Joško Joras ritardi etc.) meetings when everything usurped in a gypsy "gib clay" manner. Ivica Račan acknowledged those borders with a bilateral agreement, out of which Croatia backed out, yet again. I guess the public pressure was too severe to handle. Janša on the one hand, being for a first time elected right wing, and Sanader on the other hand were a perfect combination for a populistic excess chimpout. Lets face it, Milanović is a MAJOR CUCK - he only won elections because of publics dissatisfaction over Sanader/Kosor, not because he can actually offer an alternative to HDZ. Thats why he resigned like a CUCK that he is despite playing some awkward "nationalistic" charicature over refugees, Serbia and arbitration. For HDZ, its a win-win situation either way, good media publicity. Now, if Croatia loses, HDZ will just say "told you so", and if they "win" - they will perscribe all the credits to themselves. HDZ has a very loyal and stable voting body and they will continue beating patriotic drums of NDH for a long time. Nothing will change. But then again, none gives a fuck anyway.

Its neither wrong or forbidden, its the same way Croatian arbiter communicates and informs Croatian government of the developments taken on the arbitral tribunal. The mistake of these Slovenians was usage of non-conventional channels or non-secured lines which were tapped. For the sake of continuation of this process, both of them decided to resign, not because there would be anything wrong with communication itself but because they want arbitral tribune to finalise its decision. That retard Karl Erjavec was boosting in media that Slovenians will win anyway and with leakage of the tape everything gained a new momentum, which was naturally used by Croatian side. Its a good excuse to exit the process with clean hands, present itself as a moral winner over "Zlovenci" to the Croat public and, if potentionally lose the case, gain some new Branitelji voters. Its Slovenians own fault for this one, they should had been more carefull. But you can be 100% sure that both governments already know the outcome. :)

I heard that tape and their discussion and it was dull boring. I understand that it was presented in Croat media as somekind of overproportionally bombastic precedence but there is really nothing on it. That guy, Sekolc, only tells to the woman that the shit is developing in Slovenians favour and that they will win the case anyway. The woman then responds by telling him to keep chill and let the Croat arbiter mumble about their "gib clay" because, in the end, he is only digging his own grave since Croats have no arguments. You need to ask yourself logically; would EU truly let to some insignificant puny Slovenia manipulate anything and fuck Croatia over!? Its more likely to turn the other way around. Its generic balkshit media equivalent to "donated planes" *cough 300mio*.
