When did Americans became so fat? I mean the US is no1 in fatness and obesity. We all have seen statistics about it.When did this started to happen? Americans were not always a fat people.

They have large amounts of sugar in their diet. There was a documentary about that.

Actually Mexico is. And Europe is not doing much better. I mean have you gone to Scotland?

The main problem is: overproduction, cheap and fast food.

Thankfully not all Americans are overweight. But it is an issue.

Around the 1980s, with the introduction of HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup), as a replacement for sugar derived from natural sugar canes, as a cost-cutting measurement. Obesity skyrocketed throughout the 80s and 90s.

When did Americans became so fat? When did this started to happen? Americans were not always a fat people.

Supposedly, due to the fact that Americans had to send so much food across the world to soldiers and servicemen after WW2, the American food industry started practices that have led to the unhealthy dietary practices today.

Europe had an opposite effect, according to this theory where due to the destruction of transportation routes, Europeans' dietary practices were affected in a way that forced them to eat local food, which was prepared close to home and thus less processed and better for them.

In the 1990s. People were a lot slimmer in the 80s.

Fast food became a cheap alternative to healthy eating. Of course, fast food on its own doesn’t make you fat per se, but small amounts contain masses of calories and people eat more to feel satisfied. For the fat people in general, even those who aren’t hooked on fast food, lack of self control, e.g emotional eating, eating out of boredom etc also plays a part, we’re in an age of emotional incompetence

Then there’s another thing, fat acceptance. You can be a landwhale and people won’t bat an eye nowadays, it’s become normalised so people have less shame in being insanely fat

I can't contribute as an American but as a health-conscious person, it's the sugar and oil. Americans have sugar in everything and even the huge burgers posted here are not necessarily a problem.

The addition of tons of sugar to everything and the change from butter/lard to vegetable oils have occurred gradually. It is absolutely true that in the cases of the Scottish, tons of fat, even lard/butter AND sugar do not help, but overall a dish with fewer carbs and cooked in butter/lard is healthier.

It seems that USA can be associated with "arabic" countries or pacific-asian people..

From what I've seen on tv, they eat a lot of fast food things, many of them don't cook at home, they eat quickly sitting on the sofa or in the armchair! WTF. I couldn't even imagine to eat sitting on the sofa.

P.S.
Not to mention that the meat they eat is from animals stuffed with steroids.
