Researchers analysed the genes of more than 500,000 people worldwide
They found a host of genes that can make a big difference to our stature
One in 1,000 people carries the STC2 gene variant which adds 2cm (1in)
The researchers hope their findings will help in the design of new drug treatments for people with growth disorders

Around 70 per cent of a person's height is thought to be dictated by the genes we inherit from our mother and father.

Now analysis of hundreds of thousands of genes has found a host of genes which can boost our height – or make us shorter than average.

I know its genetics
