Kerrostalon rappukäytäviin leviteltiin rasistisia, ilmeisesti talon virolaisia asukkaita vastustavia lappuja noin viikko sitten Helsingin Vesalassa. Asukkaat ottivat laput pois pian levittämisen jälkeen, mutta mielipahaa ne ehtivät aiheuttaa. Helsingin itäisen poliisipiirin lähipoliisi ja valvontayksikössä lapuista ei ole kuultu.

- Noin vuosi sitten Vuosaaressa leviteltiin jotain rasistisiksi katsottavia lappuja, mutta mutu-tuntumalla sanoisin, että hyvin harvoin tällaista tapahtuu, ylikonstaapeli Pentti Tarvonen sanoo.

Kontulankujalla sijaitsevaan Helsingin kaupungin omistamaan vuokrataloon levitellyissä lapuissa lukee muun muassa: Menkää takaisin mistä tulittekin. Viroa tai virolaisia ei ole suoraan mainittu, mutta lappua koristaa Viron lippu. Lapussa on myös Suomen vaakuna, ja toteamus: Suurin osa teistä on täällä ”poroja”.

- Ei tällaisia voi välttämättä kuitenkaan katsoa kiihottamiseksi kansanryhmää vastaan, jos tiettyä ryhmää vain kehotetaan palaamaan kotiinsa, eikä ketään suoranaisesti halvenneta, tai kannusteta muita ihmisiä jollain tavalla esimerkiksi hyökkäämään tiettyjä ihmisiä vastaan, Tarvonen toteaa.

Tarvosen mukaan poliisi ei ole törmännyt rasismiin Itä-Helsingissä viime aikoina mitenkään aiempaa useammin. Esimerkiksi skinien ja maahanmuuttajien välisiä yhteenottoja hän ei muista tapahtuneen pitkiin aikoihin.

- Joskus on ravintoloissa tai niiden ulkopuolella ollut esimerkiksi suomalaisten ja virolaisten ryhmien välisiä tappeluja, mutta niiden syyt eivät tietojemme mukaan ole olleet mitenkään rasistisia. Enemmän ne ovat olleet ihan perinteisiä baaririitoja.

Aika-ajoin ravintolatappeluita on syntynyt Itä-Helsingissä yhtä lailla esimerkiksi virolaisten ja venäläisten välillä, Tarvonen muistuttaa.

Too bad that Finns do not show such "racism" against Somalis or such. I do not know any Estonians living in Finland, but as much as I have understood, xenophobia against Estonians is something normal and even encouraged(by the media). For instance:

...But a good example was to be found in Finland where an international drug ring involving some forty odd people, mainly finns along with several Estonians was arrested. The headlines - Estonian drug ring arrested.

I do not know any Estonians living in Finland, but as much as I have understood, xenophobia against Estonians is something normal and even encouraged(by the media).

Eräs kaverini asuu eräässä Kontulankaaren Stadin vuokratalossa. Luulenpa jopa tietäväni, missä talossa ja missä asunnossa muut asukkaat vihastuttaneet virolaiset asuvat. Kyseessä on kahdella tai ehkä korkeintaan kolmelle ihmiselle asukkaalle tarkoitettu kaksio, jossa majailee jatkuvasti kuudesta kahdeksaan virolaista rakennusmiestä. Kuulemma alkoholipoodiin on asiaa kohtalaisen usein ja sama Pandoran CD pyörii constant repeatilla. Vola tottakai katonrajassa.

Koska saman taloyhtiön taloissa asuu paljon suomalaisia työttömiä (monet heistä rakennusalalla) ei voi ihmetellä, että heitä alkaa pikkuhiljaa vituttaa. Korostan siis, että se on mielestäni ymmärrettävää, ei hyväksyttävää.


Joskus on ravintoloissa tai niiden ulkopuolella ollut esimerkiksi suomalaisten ja virolaisten ryhmien välisiä tappeluja, mutta niiden syyt eivät tietojemme mukaan ole olleet mitenkään rasistisia. Enemmän ne ovat olleet ihan perinteisiä baaririitoja.

Jos tappelut olisivat olleet suomalaisten ja somppujen välisiä, ne olisivat kaikkien television uutislähetysten pääaihe kolmen viikon ajan.

As always, people don't hate the people responsible for the situation -- which would be the current government who stopped controlling the use of unregistered foreign workers, or the owners of construction companies whose bribes pay for the politicians' electoral campaigns -- they hate the Estonian construction workers who are the most visible result.

There was recently a good article about this topic in the Estonian media. It mostly talked about HS and the negative view against Estonia(ns) it propagates.

Could be true... But I trust Iivi Anna Masso and I do not doubt her article. The Finnish media propagates a negative image about Estonians. Otherwise I couldn't meet these rare braindead Finns on the internet, who automatically call me a criminal and a thief before even saying hello. Leaving that aside, the majority of Finns who I have met in real life and online, have been friendly towards me and I have quite many Finnish friends.

Leaving that aside, the majority of Finns who I have met in real life and online, have been friendly towards me and I have quite many Finnish friends.

There exists prejudice against Estonians, nobody denies that. It is based on ignorance, it is true. But it is not promoted by HS or media in general. The Estonians and other former East Bloc immigrants are not given the same sugar coating by the media that more "exotic" immigrants receive, I think. Not to mention that negative stereotypes of Estonians that some Finns have are not examined over and over again by a team of self-appointed experts. Yeah, its regrettable that they exist, but no, there is no media conspiracy against Estonians, in my opinion.

Although it has been interesting to note, that some Eastern European immigrants to Western EU have been received with mixed emotions by the left and the liberals. Some of the immigrants (who are "white") come from more archaic backgrounds and don't necessarily buy into the post-modern Western value system the liberals prescribe to. I know a British fella who is always railing against various Eastern Europeans because of their "racism" and "religious fundamentalism/ignorance," while at the same time being a staunch supporter of continued Muslim immigration. :D
