A program established to train future leaders in education is expanding to provide new teachers for Russian-language schools.

Set up in 2006 to address a teacher shortage in the country, Noored Kooli (Young People to Schools) has placed teachers in about 30 schools. In four years, the program produced 45 teachers.

Now the organization says it wants to bring more candidates into the system to learn more about the problems faced by Russian schools. The program will roughly double its potential teachers.

"Each year, an increasing number of young people have expressed interest in the program and we have received positive feedback particularly with regard to our participants' training, in which active learning methods play an important role," said Kaire Kroos, the managing director of Noored Kooli.
