George Raft (real name George Ranft) was born in New York City to a Catholic family of German descent. The son of Eva Glockner, a German immigrant, and Conrad Ranft, who was born in Massachusetts to German immigrant parents. George’s paternal grandparents were Christopher Ranft (the son of Christopher Ranft and Anna Margaretha Theis) and Catherine Weil (the daughter of Ernst Weil and Elisabetha Schlemmer). George’s grandparents were born in Muenster.
He played Italians in a lot of movies.

I would have guessed him to be Jewish. His family may have been Christian, but I'd assume some of them were Jews who converted.
