Here is a GEDmatch result for a Sicilian from deep inland Caltanissetta with a common Maltese surname.

Implies to me a lot of Maltese must descend from relatively "pure" ancient Sicilians from deep inland who have little foreign ancestry and evaded a lot of the Italic, Greek, Norman, etc. input in the rest.. This person scores close to a Maltese.

In some calculators the result is showing a very strong Arabian affinity and closeness to North African Jews. Lowest ANE for an European I've seen.
