People who are overweight and plagued by chronic pain may find relief in a Mediterranean diet, new research suggests.

Because obese people with chronic pain usually also have a high degree of inflammation, lead researcher Charles Emery suspects the foods' anti-inflammatory properties might explain the reduced pain levels.

"One possibility is the stress of body weight on joints. A second possible mechanism is via inflammatory factors in the bloodstream, because both body fat and pain are known to be associated with elevated inflammation," he said.

The upshot: No matter what they weighed, those who ate more fish and plant-based proteins such as nuts and beans had less pain.

Οn the other hand Viking diet is good for your heart.

Nordic diets can 'nearly halve the risk of a life-threatening cardiac event'
Viking diet includes fish, cabbage, rye bread, oatmeal and root vegetables
Women following the diet were 45 per cent less likely to have a heart attack
Same diet in men reduced the risks by almost a quarter, according study

Doctors usually tell us to look south to the Mediterranean if we want the ultimate healthy diet.

But research suggests Britain might be better off turning north to Scandinavia for the secret to warding off heart attacks.

Eating like a Viking can nearly halve the risk of a life-threatening cardiac event, scientists say.

A Viking diet is dominated by foods British consumers are traditionally more familiar with – such as oatmeal, apples, pears, fish and root vegetables, particularly carrots
Women with the highest intake of Nordic-style foods were 45 per cent less likely to fall ill. For men the figure was 23 per cent.

Blodplättar, or blood pancakes (veriohukainen, verilätty or verilettu in Finnish), are a dish served in Finland, Sweden and Norway made of whipped blood and other ingredients. It is similar to black pudding, but is thinner and crispier.

Blodplättar may be fried in a frying pan. The pancakes are occasionally served with pork or reindeer meat.

In Swedish, the word may also be used to refer to blood platelets.

btw, I am vegan, lol

Interesting the blood pancakes! here in Sardinia we produce sausages and other things with pork or sheep blood, really reinvigorating (our cuisine is not really mediterranean, it's more like an inland/mountain cuisine, not very vegetarian-friendly  )

Saltitzas de Sámbene (sausages of blood) made with pork's blood

Sámbene in fiacca (blood in flame) pork's blood sausages cooked on the flame, the smelting blood trickles upon loafs of bread, that after are stuffed with the sausage itself

Culunzones de Sámbene dulche/druche (ravioli of sweet blood) ravioli stuffed with pork's blood fried in olive oil and flavoured with sugar

Su Sambeneddu (the "little" blood) or simply Su Sámbene (the blood), sheep's blood with bread and sheep's cheese, all cooked into the sheep's stomach
