In wake of the visit of the Swedish princess Victoria and her husband Daniel to Finland, I started pondering this periodically resurfacing what-if of Finnish history: what if Finland had chosen to become a monarchy in 1918? Here is some historical background:

So, as Vickan greeted the citizens of Helsingborg from a balcony in Helsinki (;)), I decided to launch this very casual questionnaire.

Is it just me or does Karl Friedrich look a lot like President Risto Ryti?

Are there any Noble (or even Royal) Houses that would be popular enough amongst the Finns ? Perhaps a crazy idea but does Mannerheim have any grandchildren that would qualify ?

Yes and I could be the king. Well, unofficially I already am. :wink

Well, Mannerheim was one option back in the days when Finland seriously opted for a monarchy.
Popular royal houses? The Swedish is always popular in Finland but who knew that the Belgian royal house is partly descendant from Finland?

No. One shalt not be born with titles, but rather earn them after what you achieve in life. Birth means nothing, your achievements mean everything. Hereditary rule is perverted. I'm not going to pledge loyalty to the king of this nation, seeing how a multi-cultural and Jewish tool he is, just because he's got 'royal' blood in him. Down with the monarchy.

Well, the descendants of Friedrich Karl are sometimes portrayed as "pretenders to the Finnish throne" but usually in a humorous way. As for aristocratic families in Finland, I don't think they're very popular with the people. ;)

No. The monarchy as an idea has outlived itself.
