On Wednesday, Foreign Minister Urmas Paet began a two-day working visit to Canada, the first official visit to the country by an Estonian foreign minister since the re-establishment of independence.

Paet's agenda includes meetings with his counterpart Lawrence Cannon, Defense Minister Peter MacKay and Trade Minister Peter Van Loan, a press release from the Foreign Ministry in Tallinn confirmed. The ministers will discuss bilateral relations and trade, the situation in Afghanistan, Nato issues and cyber defense.

While in the country, Paet will also visit Montreal and Toronto, and meet with representatives of the Estonian expat community in Canada, one of the world's largest.

"The community of Estonians living in Canada is socially active and has been remarkably successful in preserving the Estonian identity outside Estonia's borders," Paet said.
