This shows Levant used to be Arabian. After the bronze age the Levant got flooded with West-Asians..... We are the northmen of the middle-east :costumed-smiley-083

"Not very close to Europeans, but of the Europeans, they are closest to Maltese, Sicilians, and Ashkenazim."

Well it only means that he/she only is composition wise the closest to these Maltese, Sicilians, and Ashkenazim. It doesn't necessarily actually mean that he/she is close/related to these ethnic groups or even share any ancestry with them(Recent ancestry that is). (All humans share ancestry if we go far enough back in time :) ).

What I meant with that comment was, we often think Levantines got more "Arab" like and less European, but this person was so far away from Europeans that they were only close to the really outlying islanders. Modern Levantines are more European-like than this even.

They got more European, but also more African as well. Which is something hinted in one of the upcoming paper. There s a fair chance some Euro have that kind of BA input or similar in the chalcolithic.

Yes, right! :)

However many people seem to believe that even modern Levantines ACTUALLY have Sicilian/Italian ancestry since it can appear in their population distances on the calculator. This is not necessarily true. They do score tiny amounts of European, but this European can come from who knows where. It could come from Georgians or other ethnicities like that due to mixture with Levantines. This in turn can pop up as Sicilian/Italian on calculators, but only because their autosomal composition has some similiarites with Sicilians/Italians not because they have actuall ancestry from there.

So ancient Levantines were more Arabian like?

Hadouken

they lack the African to be Arabian like . Arabians usually score a decent amount of east/northeast african and some west african too depending on person while this ancient levant genome doesnt (as much)

It is the reverse... Sicilians and southern Italians have some Levantine ancestry, as do the Maltese.

The thing to keep in mind is, this result predates the influx of people from the Caucasus region southward.

From which part of the Levant is this sample from? Can you link me to the paper?

So ancient Levantines were more Arabian like?

The ancient Natufians cluster far more closely to the modern day Egyptians and Arabians than to the modern Levantine population. I think it's because the ancient Levant had experienced intrusion and immigration from Anatolia, transcaucasia and even Iran which had altered the genetic genome of the Levant.

I've always heard there was some genetic input by the Euros (mostly French) during the Crusades in Lebanon. No? What could account for the drift towards Europe since ancient times, if not the Crusaders?

Hmm, I believe that this is impossible to know with todays genetic testing. It could be like that or it could be the otherway around, or it could be that Sicilians/Italians and Levantines share a common ancestor, but this would not mean that Sicilians/Italians have Levantine ancestry only that they share ancestors.

It might be true that this predates the influx of people from the caucasus region,if there ever was such an influx, however this sample seem to clearly have "Caucasus/Anatolian/WestAsian" ancestry with the SouthWest Asian ancestry being dominant.

They have very minor Norman, other French, and other West European in them. Mostly in the Muslims, hence why they are slightly closer to Europe genetically than Lebanese Christians even though you'd expect the opposite.
