Estonia was ranked 34th among 169 countries in the 2010 UN Human Development Index, making it among 42 countries that are classified by UN as having very high human development. In 2009 Estonia was 40th and in 2008 it was 42nd.
In this year's ranking Lithuania was 44th and Latvia was 48th.
Norway was ranked the world's best place to live in, followed by Australia, New Zealand, United States and Ireland.
Zimbabwe languishes at the bottom of the 169-country ranking, joined by the Democratic Republic of Congo, Niger, Burundi and Mozambique.
