The OLDEST tree-dwelling bird species revealed

Archaeologists have discovered the fossil of a tiny bird in New Mexico that dates back around 62 million years.
The researchers believe that the bird, which they have named 'Tsidiiyazhi abini', is the oldest tree-dwelling species among modern bird groups.

The finding confirms that birds rapidly evolved after the asteroid strike that wiped out the dinosaurs, quickly splitting into different forms to pursue a variety of diets and lifestyles.

TSIDIIYAZHI ABINI
The sparrow-sized bird lived just two million years after the dinosaurs went extinct.
Speaking to the BBC, Dr Daniel Ksepka, who led the study, explained what made Tsidiiyazhi abini such a unique creature.
He said: 'It is very old, very small, and had zany little feet.
'The age is between 62.2 and 62.5 million years, just a geological blink of the eye after the asteroid impact that wiped out the dinosaurs.'
The bird could flip its fourth toe backwards - an adaptation that was useful for climbing and grasping.
Experts believe that the bird lived in forests and ate fruits and seeds from flowering plants.
