Does it really have to be right before you work out or can you just eat these foods in general expecting the same results?

Oh of course.. I mean can you eat these at a different time (not like 1 hour before you workout or whatever) and still workout and expect results?
EDIT: Like for dinner and then you work out the next day.

Only if you over do it. I did 15 minutes cardio before the real work and 15 minutes after I was done.

You have to have energy when you go to lift.If you go hungry you won't have the same horsepower,and will not have a quality workout.

Also HGH starts to release when you are working out,along with amino acids,and L-Carnitine acids,and they need fuel to pump into your muscle.If your tank is empty you spike this system and will not benefit growth.

Before gym meals are a must if you want to grow.

Is jsut incredbile how this stupid media lie everywhere that you have to eat 1 apple per day to look fit and sexy as a women.
All this are bullshits and linebacker can support my point.
If you want to be a hot chick and not some weird anorexic skin and bones chick, you have to eat DIVERSE and to calculate your kcal.
Eat proteins, eat fat, eat veggies, eat carbo eat everything but by calculating them.

You will dont have this look if you will eat just veggies and apples.
The body need a minnimum fat per day even if you want to lose weight in a WEALTHY WAY AND TO LOOK SEXY. Carbo also.
And if you will dont eat before the work out, you will dont have energy, no energy-no fat burned.

The biggest gains do not happen on an empty stomach. You might burn fat but it is not optimal for building strength or size.

I think that not everyone is suitable for training when they are hungry. I feel very dizzy if I train in the morning. I train an hour after eating. I love intense workouts. I spend at least 30 minutes on cardio exercises. Then I start working on one of my problem areas. I have big shoulders, so I try to do a lot of approaches with low weight on the upper part of the body and I have a flat butt, so I train my buttocks well (here getbigbutt.com (https://getbigbutt.com/how-to-get-bigger-hips/) are good workouts). My workout takes 1 hour and 20 minutes. I always finish stretching or yoga. I really don't feel comfortable while I'm training when I'm hungry.
