Kind of look as if they are trying to be shocking, and failing, I don't either like or dislike them, I wouldn't give them house space, but then I wouldn't give the normal version room either, they might start a conversation.

I like them because they're a bit of a curiosity. At a first glance and from afar they look slightly dark, but it is not until further examination that you realize how morbid they are. I'm not particularly enamoured with them or anything.

Me neither. Too explicit for my tastes. I prefer the subtlety of classic macabre to the explicit bloodiness and gore of contemporary horror and what masquerades as "macabre" and "gothic" these days. You can keep Tim Burton. Give me Poe, Bierce, and Lovecraft.

I guess that they're appropriate to our time. Beauty is passé. Society is jaded. Only the gross, the perverse, and the gruesome can make any impression on its blunted sensibilities.

There is only a thin line between "deconstruction" and demolition. We can't, or don't want to, create anything beautiful any more, so let's dissect with a meat-axe what society was so naive as to consider beautiful and thus show how sophisticated and clever we are.

An Orwellian spirit has come to dominate the arts. Ugly is beautiful; beautiful is corny. Only sentimental fools, old fossils, left behind by the march of progress, think that a sunset is more beautiful than road-kill.

I think that I would prefer a memento mori to be more subtle and beautiful than that, and what Svipdag said.

Also, the porcelain figurines that they aim to satirise are pretty dreadful, so they are not even a brilliant deconstruction of traditional 'white' culture either.
