The City of Pearl, Manila is only one of several new CBDs planned for Manila, Philippines. There's also the New CBD for Quezon district.

The new additions would be added to the several, already existing CBDS in Metro Manila...

Damn, we already have many more CBDs than Manhattan which only has two, Downtown and Midtown...

Manila already has seven of those...

Then, it will be 9 with the addition of the new, Pearl City, and Quezon Triangle Park...

super futuristic looking!

Looks like Makati and BGC have just been trumped

Makati btw is my favorite out of all the Manila business districts there are, even though BGC is actually the newer development of the two. But this 'City of Pearl' looks almost like The Jetsons  ..."Entertainment city manila" is another megaproject I've heard about...this one Japanese billionaire tycoon named Okada whose main ultimate ambition is to trump the mighty Las Vegas or so I've heard lol.

Btw Selurong which Manila CBD do you prefer most out of all, if you were to live in one?

I love downtown-Manila/Ermita the most, since it's the nearest to original Manila, Intramuros. This, even though we have property in Makati city. I still love Ermita due to proximity to Intramuros.

They really cleaned up and renovated Intramuros recently. I visited early last year, and the streets are much more immaculate and tidy looking then they were several years ago when I first visited the place. I have lots of cool pics when I was there...great memories. I wonder what type of Spanish architecture those buildings and city designs were modeled after.

What I would love in Philippines is a high tech full-fledged subway system that could rival the likes of Hong Kong/New York etc. I think that would significantly boost the Philippines reputation by quite a bit!

HK has a very efficient subway line, because HK is small.

But the largest subway systems in the world are now in Beijing and Shanghai. Longer than NYC, London, or Tokyo.

Also, HK's development nowadays are dwarfed by the huge projects in many of Mainland China's huge cities.

Just take Chongqing for instance.

Yeah, they really cleaned up the place lately. You have pics? Do you want to share them here? Most of the architecture in Intramuros with the exception of San Agustin church were only rebuilt after the war. As for the Spanish architecture they were modeled after, I think they were modeled after the "Earthquake Baroque" style.

Actually, the Philippines is in partnership with Japan's JICA to build a subway in Manila.

Chongqing is no doubt a megacity and it's more strategically placed than Hong Kong by being in central China and is also at the confluence of the Yangtze River. However, central China isn't as rich as coastal China.

As for Duterte making peace with China. I wish he'd do it without antagonizing the USA. He disrespected Obama once and called him the son of a whore, lol.

It will run from north of Manila to the center before it U-turns and returns up north.

Well, I think the Philippines is in a good place now. I think it is in the good graces of both Xi Jinping and Trump which is optimal for it's development.

IDK about Chongqing being better placed because HK is at the head of the PRD, which is one of the world's greatest urban economies. They are different certainly. Central China is rapidly catching up in development however, even though it is still a laggard compared to China's coastal regions.

I guess that's a good start though Manila probably needs an even more comprehensive system probably.

Manila should learn from Shanghai and Beijing, which built giant subway systems underneath already dense urban areas.

We may be in for a difficult situation with Trump around. He's a protectionist and most likely all the Business Process Outsourcing companies operating here, which are working for U.S. firms, will pack up and leave, which is a big-no no since BPOs form a large portion of the Philippine economy.

Maybe Chongqing and HK are just different. Chongqing is more geared towards the domestic economy while HK which is at the head of the PRD is geared towards international trade.

The cities in the PRD are well suited for that purpose.

http://www.accci.com.au/prd_files/image004.jpg

Also the PRD's economy is more varied...

There's financials in Hong-Kong, gambling in Macau, manufacturing in Shenzhen etc.

That will only be phase one of the operation, they're planning to extend it all the way south until Laguna de Bay. It will also criss-cross with the already existing above-ground Metro-Rail System.

I don't think Trump will have a major impact on the Philippines' economy. And he's not annoyingly self righteous about Duterte as Obama and Hillary was. So I think US-Philippines relations will be in the upswing.

Either way, China will be a much bigger factor in the future of Filipino development than the US. So as long as there is peace between the Philippines and the US/China, it will be beneficial for development.

The Philippines is actually swinging far below it's potential. It is very well placed for future development. It is a large archipelago right next to China and very close to the PRD, which will likely be the world's greatest economic region in the next 10 years. The Philippines should become a major economic and industrial power, it is far from its potential right now. I think things will be changing soon however.

Here are some which I photographed. So this is "Earthquake Baroque" style huh. It's not all of Intramuros I visited though, there were still a lot of unexplored places there I haven't been to yet I would assume.

Yes. I think so too. I think the Philippines is not working to it's true potential. Stil...

Proximity to China doesn't make some nations prosperous. Take for example, Vietnam, it's nearer to the PRD than us but it's poorer. There are other cases too though. South Korea, HK, Macau, Taiwan and Japan have gotten wealthy by selling their exports to China.

Maybe we should shift more of our exports to China too.

Here are some which I photographed. So this is "Earthquake Baroque" style huh. It's not all of Intramuros I visited though, there were still a lot of unexplored places there I haven't been to yet I would assume.

Your pictures look fabulous!

Intramous is a must see landmark on my list to visit Manila. I haven't gotten around to visit it when I was here in Manila. In my future trip to the Philippines, I try my possible best to accommodate Intramous into my Manila itinerary.

@Selurong This will be built on that "reclamation land" project thing correct? I read about it here: http://www.rappler.com/life-and-style/23307-manila-bay-reclamation

How does that work btw, and is that 100% foolproof/safe and free from natural calamities? :)

And what's with that Chinese pagoda temple structure-building in the vid? lol

Yes. It's another version of that plan you posted. Also, it's a Chinese temple. The principal investors of Pearl City are the Chinese.
