Determine phenotypes. Share your thoughts about overlap with other nations. Post studies if you have some. Anyone can add photos and contribute to thread in various ways.

What I noticed is how drastically different people begin to look once you cross the Italian-Slovenian border. Definitely one of the most starkly contrasting neighbouring Euro countries, imo.

As a group, they look closest to Austrians and Croats, I think. Strong Alpinid influences, with plenty of other phenotypes including Norid, Dinarid, a bit of Nordid (mostly with CM I think), and even some West Baltid.

True, Slovenians and Italians are probably the two populations that border each other with the biggest genetic distance. Far northern Italians have some genetic continuity between themselves and Swiss/ s. French people but none with Slovenes.

I'm not sure how other people experiance the phenotypes of people they live around but for me Slovenes don't really have their own distinct "look" like for example some Dinaric populations have. Central European populations are IMO hardest to classify. Far southern Europeans or far northern Europeans are much more straight forward looking for classification.

Yes, I generally agree with this. I often find southern Germans, Austrians, Slovenes, and some Hungarians very difficult to classify.

Btw lack of genetic continuity doesn't mean much, there's no genetic continuity between Sardinians and any europeans, but by appeearance Sardinians overlap with iberians and italians...

That's due to the fact that Sardenga ppl don't have any steppe/ ANE and that pushes them quite far from other Italians since the ANE component is quite distant from SW Euros. Iberians however aren't that far from them. The genetic distance between them and Iberians is a bit larger than the genetic distance between western Norwegians and some Swedes.

Why are you saying this?

Not comparable at all. Sardinians are clearly cut off from the rest of europe, a number of Swedes and Norwegians are plotting in exactly the same place here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9o3EYTdM8lQb2I1X2t0TDZtMXM/edit
(norwegian samples are yellow color, so it's hard to identify them with the white background)

It is true, what do you mean why do I say it??
They're not as cut off as people like to think dude

The distance between Sardinians and Italians/iberians/Basque is as big as distance between brits and western Russians.

I didn't say it's untrue, but why I don't understand why you felt the need to say it. I wasn't askin if Sardinians have ane or not. That part was irrelevant.
I'm not qualified qualified to discuss this, but in this PCA for example they are clearly distinct from others https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9o3EYTdM8lQb2I1X2t0TDZtMXM/edit

I mentioned it because they're basically one of the only Europeans that don't have any ANE. That's why they sorta seem isolated, even Portuguese have around 8% ANE, basques have around 5%, Sardinians none. That's why they're isolated.

But I wasn't asking why they're isolated.

posting pictures of young kids with many bleached blonde girls to boost the alleged level of blondism is quite pathetic if you ask me. If you look at Slovenian adult male politicians they have almost no blonds.

1) Not boosting anything.
2) Dyeing your hair is a far more common practice (due to various reasons) among adult females than among teens though observed among the latter, too.
3) I posted adults and will, of course, keep doing this.
4) Irritated by Edgabe's comment?
5) Sometimes I wonder how to even answer posts like yours.

They weren't really kids man. My hair darkened by the time I turned like 10 or something..... Most are around 18 years old and some might be slightly younger.

Yes but my point was that when it comes to females, adults are far more likely to have dyed (usually in blonde) hair than teen girls.
Slovenes (like most Central Euros) have a lot of brown to dark-haired people (nothing surprising about it).
However, it is undeniable that they have a higher number of blond people than Southerners.
Got my point now?
P.S.: I told you I'm not boosting anything.

Interesting! I've noticed the same. Actually in Istria, the few Italians left are almost a racial minority that looks a LOT closer to Sicilians than Yugoslavs nearby. Near-black hair is very common, but as elsewhere in Italy eyes are frequently blue.

Overall, they are completely un-Slavic in looks. Almost a miracle they speak a Slavic language
