Classify Very Interesting Looking Player

Leandro Vissotto, brazilian volleyballl player of apparently Italian and Portuguese ancestry.

He doesn't look SSA admixed and have few (or non-existent) Amerindian blood as well. But to my eyes he looks very South Asian.

What kind of mix could generate this phenotype? I'm certain he would be able to pass in India/Pakistan. His parents on the other hand look fully Euro.

Well, maybe fully Euro is an exaggeration but they can pass easier than him and they don't look even remotely South Asian. I would say that he is mostly an exotic type of Med.

We do not inherit the phenotype solely from our parents, but because of the genetic atavism and genetic recombination, also from grandparents, great-grandparents, great-great-grandparents... Often with a recombination of all. So a comparison with parents is never enough.


Genetic recombination is the production of offspring with combinations of traits that differ from those found in either parent.

Remembering that Punjabis are probably one of the most Caucasoid South Asian groups. If he resembled low caste South Indians or Sri Lankans it would be easier to explain (we would guess some distant african blood).
