The Nordic countries are tightening their military cooperation. Finland and its Scandinavian neighbours are preparing a security policy statement aimed at preparing jointly for both peace-time catastrophes and military threats.

However the plan stops short of forming a military alliance, and will require political approval by national parliaments.

The document is being put together by the foreign ministers of Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland based on a proposal made last year by former Norwegian foreign minister Thorvald Stoltenberg.

Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb says the 'declaration of solidarity' was discussed at this month's Nordic conference in Reykjavik. It is to be taken up again by the ministers next April in Helsinki.

Why not, in principle.

The problem is that the end result will be the Scandinavians relying on us to protect them from Russia even more heavily than before.

If they help pay for it, why not. ;)

I still think North Korea should be in our pact.
