The UNESCO has included today 34 new additions into its list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Among the European ones, there were French cuisine and Alençon needle lace-making, Lithuanian multipart songs, the Belgian Aalst carnival and Houtem Jaarmarkt, the gingerbread craft from northern Croatia, etc.

But obviously I'm particularly happy for the two ones belonging to the Catalan culture, the Human Towers and the Chant of the Sibyl. Even if it's mainly a nonprofit representative act, it is always good to know that some ethnic artistic expression you feel as yours becomes symbolically universal.

The Catalan Human Towers or 'Castells'

Strength, balance, courage and good sense. The expression of one people.

The Chant of the Sibyl

Gregorian tune in medieval Catalan describing the Apocalypse, going back to the beginnings of the Crown of Aragon, now typically sung by young women and children for the Xmas liturgy in Majorca and the Catalan Italian city of Alguer.

The Mediterranean diet has also been added. But it was shared with several other Med countries.
