A much-talked-about ferry service linking the Swedish island of Gotland with Estonia's largest island Saaremaa and the Latvian port of Ventspils will become reality next year.
The development advisor with the city government of Saaremaa's capital Kuressaare, Ingrid Tilts, told the daily Saarte Hääl that the shipping link is planned for 2011.
She said the schedule was not known yet but that service would be initially be infrequent, in the hopes that the service would be sustainable in the future.
The Interreg IV A program for the central Baltic Sea region has allocated close to 1.6 million euros for the cooperative project linking the ports and city governments.
Studies are currently being conducted regarding the transport systems and services and tourist sector.

Sounds nice. I have never visited Gotland, but I have heard that it's quite similar to Saaremaa.
