Today my mum will make mousaka but she makes it like its common in my region of serbia i wonder if its the same as the greek one.
She uses potatoes minced meat eggplant onions and sourcream then she puts it in oven she likes it but i prefer lasagne

Im dieting but i need a real warm meal once a day i eat only once a day and in morning and evening i only eat joghurt and fruits and vegetables

A Bit differerent but similar also my mum uses minced meat from beef and pork not lamb and she uses only sourcream not bechamel sauce

Most Greek versions are based primarily on sautéed aubergine (eggplant) potatoes and minced meat toped with bechamel sauce.

A Bit differerent but similar also my mum uses minced meat from beef and pork not lamb and she uses only sourcream not bechamel sauce

Most use beef and pork mince here too, never eaten it with lamb meat.

Then it is basically the same

It is a heavy dish a bit like the English Shepherd's pie, so I rarely make it, perhaps make lighter versions of it.

I have done a vegan moussaka recipe once. At the time I wasn't even aware it was a Greek dish to be honest, only recently I found out.

It's not exclusively a Greek dish. Originally it was a Persian dish. It was just a Greek that added bechamel sauce to the dish and thus he made the Greek version the most prevalent.

Turkish and Persian Moussaka for example look quite different. It is not layered, instead, it is prepared with sautéed eggplant, green peppers, tomatoes, onions, and minced meat. It is generally eaten with rice.

On a second thought, I had to confirm what I really did and it wasn't moussaka xD What I did was moqueca (for some reason I confused both names), which is a Brazilian dish. Meanwhile I did find recipes for a vegetarian moussaka so it goes on my future list.

In the Levant, moussaka is a cooked dish made up primarily of tomatoes and eggplant, similar to Italian caponata, and may also include chickpeas. It may be served cold or hot.

Different layers of potatoes"bottom",aubergines"between",chopped meet"above,optional if want to make it vegitarian just leave it"

Bechamel sauce on top of it.

Add some nutmeg to the bechamel

Frie first the aubergines before you use them in the Moussaka

Mine is Layered too with potatoes and eggplant and minced meat on top Sauerrahm sourcream

That's exactly how I make mine. I definitely put nutmeg in my bechamel.

To be noted that Mousaka is not a Greek recipe. It was brought here by christian Anatolian refugees from the population exchange between Greece and Turkey, like some other recipes.

There were ethnic Greeks in Anatolia since the times of Homer...

Greeks are one of the oldest ethnicities inhabiting Anatolia.

Anyway as Raine already said Moussaka has probably Persian roots and was altered/refined by Greeks to its current form...

But it is one of the most famous and popular foods in Neo-Greek cuisine.

In order to make a grate mousaka you must to have good vegetable cutting gadgets (https://my-kitchengadgets.com/collections/slicers) for helping you cut all the vegetables for the meat mixture. It will defenitly make you half job.

The moussaka as we know it in Greece appears first in a Greek recipe book written by Nikolaos Tselementes
a Greek chef from Sifnos Island.


Its different enough already from the Anatolian or Persian food with the same name
to consider it a distinct dish of its own.

Each cuisine has some infuences or ideas from abroad.

In particular regarding cuisine and anything which has to do with foods things or ideas are not created out of nothing but always something
already existing is taken as the basic idea and than its variated reworked into a new sort of thing

Shall we now discuss if the Italian pizza Napoletana has also Arabic origins or came from the Anatolian Lahmacun?


Why is everything Greeks do or have always put into question?

But the same questions aren't asked for Italian food,Turkish Food,French Food e.c.t


Greek cuisine as such is one of the oldest traditions

Alot of ingredients used by Ancient Greeks such as Honey,Walnuts,Olives,Cheeses,Herbs are still used today and are also used by the neighbouring
cultures.

Greece is one of the oldest countries known for cultivating wine and has many excellent sorts of wine
Nemea,Monemvasia,Cretan wine,Wine from Samos to name few.

Greece has a great variety of special cheeses which are unique and very tasty and easily compete with cheeses in neighbouring
countries for example the Italian ones

Feta,Graviera,Anthoturo,Manouri"Cretan",Myzithra,Kapinisto Turi,Kefalo Turi

Damn, I was doing it all wrong, putting the inner organs of a moose into socks, hanging them on a line, smoking them with olive-tree branches and then serving them. Wasn't that bad, actually, although peeling the socks off posed somewhat of a problem.
