Happy thanksgiving everybody! gobble gobble. I'm thankful that we have so many brave troops that have fought and still fight for the sake of our freedom. I want to hear some opinions about what y'all feel it means to be American and who you would consider American. Hope you are having a good turkey day.

Americans are those who live in the USA and fight against USA government.

Aren't you an American as well?

If people really think all Americans fit that stereotype, they need to do more travelling.

In Mein Kampf, Hitler rarely mentioned the United States and when he did, it was in a tone of deep contempt. In Mein Kampf, Hitler portrayed the United States as a "racially degenerate" society on its way to self-destruction. By contrast, in Zweites Buch, Hitler portrayed the U.S. as a dynamic, "racially successful" society that practiced eugenics and segregation and followed what Hitler considered to be a wise policy of excluding "racially degenerate" immigration from eastern and southern Europe. What promoted the change in Hitler's views between 1924 and 1928 is not known. By 1928, Hitler seems to have heard about the U.S.'s massive industrial wealth, the Immigration Act of 1924, segregation, and the fact that several American states had eugenics boards to sterilize people who were considered mentally defective, and was favorably impressed. Hitler proclaimed his admiration for these sorts of policies and expressed his wish that Germany would do similar things, albeit on a much greater scale.

Where did you learn that? From television?;)

Americans are people whose ancestors got kicked out of every self-respecting country on earth.

Just like our mates in Australia:thumbs up

I don't call myself an "American" any longer. The country is done for. The regime in Washington does not represent me. Hence, I have no government, and, in a very real sense, no country, either.

I'll just call myself a Californian of Adamic descent.

My ancestors chose to come here, to escape the lunacy and imperialism of their home countries. Unfortunately, those diseases followed them, and America degenerated into a lunatic empire.

OK, I didn't get the old humor meter off the peg for you, apparantly.

Get out of California. It's bad for your soul.

What it means to be who is an american?

Not much given that just about anyone can be a so-called Ameriacan these days, from someone who had ancestors in North America in the 1600s, like me, to a half-Kenyan so-called Preisdent of questionable origins.

So you're a Christian (possibly one who calls himself Judeo-Christian even) who lives in California. Does that really mean anything to anyone outside of other Californian (Judeo-)Christians?

we're selfish bullies; we walk like a clydesdale and carry a big stick. we psychologically assault our citizens with figureheads, celebrity media, extreme gender roles and physical ideals, the guilt of a gruesome, dying jew nailed to a cross, low cost, high sodium foods, a false sense of "unity", identity based consumerism and drugs, as well as the rest of the world, on a constant basis. i'm not saying this is unique to only america; but there's no place quite like here either.

there are things i greatly appreciate and even admire about living here, but you won't be seeing me saying the pledge of allegiance, having anything to do with decorative flags in my household or being surprised that things as upsetting as 9/11 happen.

(1) I'm sure there are many things about living in America that you like because they are what you want, or care about-because they gratify you.

(2) One of the things you might appreciate is that, in America, you can write things like this in a public forum without fear of reprisal. You have that right here. If America hadn't been what we were (and are) from 1941-1991 you would have written your next post from a concentration camp.

I most certainly DO NOT call myself a "Judeo-Christian." Any more than I use the phrase "oil-water."

How one defines American identity is one of the more critical questions facing modern Americans. Without delving into the political and economic aspects of that question and desperately trying not to be divisive in my first post, I would respond that it's far too easy for those of a racialist bend to outright dismiss America as the dreaded "melting pot", though I do not deny that there is some truth in it. For those who think in the more exclusive terms of ethnicity, America was founded by WASP's and there is a long and profound history, an unbroken if largely forgotten culture, rich with tradition to be bridged to and inspired by, even if buried under successive waves of immigration.

I heartfully recommend "The Way of the WASP" by Richard Brookhiser and "Who Are We?" by Samuel Huntington.

The older I get the more disillusioned I become. I was told as a child that we are a free people and have rights. Now I know better. Liberty and rights are being taken away every day by the criminal politicians that run this corrupt government.

America will fail, first financially then in many other ways. My children and grandchildren will be paying 70% to 80% taxes on their income, if they can find a job. I predict a wave of emigration of white European Americans to wherever they feel will be a better place than this.

I'm forced to agree and ironically, I find as the US becomes increasing more Latino, more white Americans are emigrating to Latin American countries. I personally know a few that have gone to China and the Orient, largely because of business opportunities and the low cost of living.
