Out of curiosity I googled for Gatty and Jew. As far as I am aware Gatty is not a Jewish name. It could of course be that these are not real Gattys but families that for some reason at some point adopted the surname Gatty. If not then it seems some Gattys really were Jews. Could that suggest two unrelated groups Jewish and non Jewish sharing the surname Gatty ?

Found several Jewish Gattys in 19th century records, but it's hard to say where the surname stems from. Might be Italian, in which case the bearers were likely Sephardis or Italkim, or it could be the Hebrew word for Gittite (גִּתי Gītī, man of Gath - the name of several biblical cities) distorted by layers of transliteration. The earliest record I found was an 1810 birth certificate for a Polish Jew named Leibush Gätee. At any rate, I think it's most likely a coincidence.
