Since France is very much a composite of different European regions and peoples, I thought this'd be interesting to ask.

Claudia Schiffer, German model

Claudia Schiffer.

How come?

Monica since French are more Latin alike. Schiffer is too German, would pass in North France only.

Ya rly.

I have visited Southern France twice, and in fact they were lighter and less stereotypically Med-looking than I first expected.

Well, i've family in Lorraine, i've been there and people are not all blondes or German like people portray French there.

I think Monica. Maybe south Italians are a little less passable in France than Germans, but I think noone can fit better in most of France than central or north Italians

Yes I know that. To me a distinctive, if not necessarily average Frenchwoman would be Segolene Royal.

I think the Swiss, Belgians and even the British rival Northern and Central Italians in that respect. :)

Do you think that Claudia Schiffer is the average / representative German phenotype?

Not necessarily average as such, but commonplace and distinctive for sure.

Not necessarily average as such, but commonplace and distinctive for sure.

Commonplace perhaps, but mostly in the Northern/Central Part of the country. Not that you can't find such types in the south, but they are not super common there.

I am not sure what you mean by "distinctive".

Distinctive in the sense that her face screams German, whereas lots of Germans (as is the case with Europeans in general) could pass as lots of things.

If I did not know where she was from my first Guess would be Scandinavian, my second guess would be Dutch and my third guess would be German.

So her face screams other ethnicities first, at least for me.

I've met French families from north, west France and sometimes they look completey different from the ones I see from the south. An average French would be bang in the middle between those two. I would say belluci however. She appeals to be more classically French looking.

Monica Belluci only common in Corsica and areas with strong Italian influx such as Provence, especially in the pays niçois area. She’d be off even in SW France, let alone in places such as Normandy or Picardy. Claudia Schiffer passes best on the overall. Still none of them is typical.

Ludivine Sagnier is a more widespread look:

Only in Corsica and Provence due to the Italian influence.

I guess the question now is is Segolene Royal the perfect median between Schiffer and Bellucci?
