Wandering through some webpages I have found some interesting things in the Wikipedia in Italian, mostly about the numbers of immigrants and their procedence. It seems that almost the same quantity of people from the North and from the South migrated to Brazil. According to the map (see below):

The total number of Northerners is 699172

The total number of Southerners is 526461

Considering that Brazilian population was around 2.000.000 when Italians started to immigrate here, it representes a heavy influx of population with more than 1.000.000 people immigrating in 30 years. Italian immigration started heavily in the 1890s and declined around 1920. Almost all regions in Brazil have some Italians, but the Southeast and the South are the places where most immigrants concentrated.

According to my observations, most Southerners are present in Southeast Brazil (mainly São Paulo) and Northerners in Espírito Santo and the South.

The Wikipedia in Italian estimate that around 15% of Brazilian population have Italian origin:

Secondo stime recenti, oggi il 15% della popolazione brasiliana sarebbe di origine italiana, ovvero circa 30 milioni di persone, risultando quindi la più numerosa popolazione di oriundi italiani nel mondo.[9] Secondo un'altra ricerca condotta nel 1999 dall'ex presidente dell'IBGE, il 10,5% dei brasiliani hanno affermato di avere origini italiane. In una popolazione di 200 milioni di brasiliani, sono quindi circa 20 milioni di persone.[10]

I think it's enough to conclude that Italians are the most important ethnic group in Brazil post-XIXth century.

I will post more data when I have more time, but it's interesting to have this thread to inform some people. I will also post information about the Italo-Brazilian dialects and cultural traditions.

Italian Immigration was very strong in the last years of the XIX century and the first years of the XX Century.

Portuguese immigration would replace the Italian from 1904 until the 30's.

HAHAHA, my bad.

~20.000.000 was the intended number.

It still represents a substantial influx of population. With only 2.000.000 it will be like 60% of actual Brazilians have Italian origin. haha

You can define Brazil as basically Portugal+ Italy + West Africa + Amerindians. Other ethnic groups are somewhat secondary.

I Think it's more like Portugal + West Africa + Amerindian + Italy.

West African and Amerindian ancestry is shared by all Pardos, Natives, Blacks and even by a significant minority of Whites.

You're right.

But in some places some ''pardos'' (very bad term, since it's vague and not very precise) are basically Portuguese +Amerindian and in others Portuguese +Black. I don't think Amerindian and Black are shared by all of them. I speculate that in some states there is more Negroid and in others more Amerindian.

I don't really like Brazilian racial categories, they're vague and a lot of people mark different things. I have seen light-skinned mixed people self-classified as White and (more difficult, but still exists) olive-skinned Whites self-classified as ''pardos''. Bullshit, pure and simple. I have even seen idiots here saying some Portuguese and Italians are not 'White'.
