Connacht is consistently closest, and Munster, other than Cork and Kerry which are part of it, is the furthest away most of the time. Ulster must be the Catholic Irish, as it is sometimes furthest.

Why might Connacht be closest? All I can think of is having a lot of Norman ancestry that passed through Britain first. Or it could be something more ancient.

Depends on samples and how representative a small sample size for each Irish population Is. Where did the Irish samples come from?

Difficult to measure like this, especially if regions don't cluster round the average. DNA shouldn't be confined to historical or political borders and more by data spreads.

Culturally Ulster is similar to Scots. But the gaeltacht regions below donegal I'd say least similar to UK.

MDLP K16 is not a particularly accurate calculator. My Irish Catholic family comes from southern Ulster but my top result on that calculator is English (Kent). I find that PuntDNAL K13 is most accurate when dealing with Irish samples.
