Just when you think that there is no hope left for your country, little things like this happen and lift your spirit :)

It looks like ancient Greek tragedy is not altogether dead in the country that gave birth to it.

On Saturday night, I went to the theatre and saw the most amazing adaptation of ancient greek drama I have ever seen on stage, that of Euripides' Medea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medea)

To sum up the story:

The Medea tells the story of the jealousy and revenge of a woman betrayed by her husband. She has left home and father for Jason's sake, and he, after she has borne him children, forsakes her, and betroths himself to Glauce, the daughter of Creon, ruler of Corinth.

After the betrayal, the "Red Witch of Colchis" (as she is commonly referred to in occult circles ;)) is driven crazy by her jealousy, and poisons Jason's new bride as well as her father.

She thereafter proceeds to give a tragic ending to the story (as fit to greek drama), by killing her own children, in order to deprive her ex-husband of his most beloved thing in the world: his offspring.

The play, called Medea 2, was an avant-garde adaptation: it was purely dance and symbolism, there was no talk whatsoever.

But I need not speak more, enjoy some trailers and hopefully one day it will be released on DVD and I can send it to you :thumb001:
