For the first time in half a decade passengers will be able to travel directly from Tallinn to St. Petersburg by ferry thanks to a new line opening this spring. The return trip, however, will take substantially longer as it bypasses Tallinn on the way to Stockholm.

The St. Peter Line announced that it will begin operating a twice-weekly St. Petersburg-Stockholm service beginning in April, with a Tallinn stop on the return route, Delovoy Peterburg reported.

Those traveling on the line will be sailing on the M/S Princess Anastasia, built in Finland in 1986. The vessel has the capacity for 2,215 passengers and 580 cars.

The new route, though not the fastest or most convenient way for Tallinn residents to reach St. Petersburg, will still be an improvement in the transport links between the cities, which are currently limited to airline and bus routes. It also has the potential of bringing more Swedish and Russian tourists to Tallinn.
