I kind of think there is some animosity between them. In the USA the Italian and Irish Americans disliked each other but then ended up marrying each other.

Nowadays i don't think French people dislike Italians..There are a lot of other ethnic groups hated way more than them..

But obviously there are always rivalries: economically (also recent), in sports etc...
