I guess he is from northern Greece. Greek-speaking Anatolians were settled in some parts of northern Greece who were completely deserted from previous wars, so they intermixed with each other and not with native Greeks. Greek-speaking Anatolians from isolated villages from northern Greece can look fully West Asian due to that.

I don't 'make' it a problem, it just is. Most of them really don't have that hard of a time phenotypically passing in the mainland but some I've seen do and that's not much of a problem. And I don't mind if some people have Pontian ancestry, it really doesn't bother me at all. All I'm saying is that both groups would be better off having their own independent states because they are not racially or culturally congruent. Pontians are a minority so this would never happen but let's pretend everyone became 1/2 Pontian at some point, then both Pontian and mainland genetic/cultural characteristics would completely disappear.

Sorry if I am being unclear. I am trying to distinguish between culture and genetics. I wholeheartedly agree that Greeks, regardless of their regional differences, are all Greek. I am merely speaking of Hellenization as a cultural phenomenon. I am also trying to emphasize the importance in timeline. Greek culture was flourishing in the Aegean and parts of the mainland before it reached the Black Sea. I am not trying to insinuate that therefore the Pontic Greeks are less Greek, but fall elsewhere on the timeline. Trust me, I am Pontic Greek and proudly identify as Greek. ΑΡΟΘΥΜΩ ΚΑΙ ΤΡΑΓΩΔΩ!

Greece did not take any Armenians, Syrians or Georgians. Most of the Armenians fled to Russia, Syria and Lebanon where they established large communities. Many were forcefully Kurdified and Turkified to escape genocide.

Only a small number of Armenians came to Greece, and most of them fled to France, United States and other parts of the world. The Armenian community in Greeks still adhere to their monophysite Armenian church and speak Armenian, and so do the diaspora Armenians in Syria, Lebanon, Egypt and everywhere else in the world.

Those fake Georgian and Armenian Pontians you have in mind came to Greece in the 90s, with false passport. There were multiple scandals about it.

Turkey even to this day has a large Assyrian community that still speaks Aramaic and adhere to the Syrian Catholic Church. Assyrian refugees never set foot in Greece. They have always been living in Turkey, Syria and Iraq. Saddam's Houssein foreign minister was one such Assyrian.

In terms the relatedness between regions, admixture between different populations is present from the different subgroups. You are right in proposing that Pontians are native; but does that make them a whole lot different than mainlanders. You are right in proposing that Pontians are native; but does that make them a whole lot different than mainlanders. Studies conducted by Lazaridis, leading Ancient DNA specialist at Harvard, visualize the distance between these modern populations compared to ancient samples and it is quite clear that yes, Pontic Greeks and other Greeks are not that distant, with of course of the aforementioned admixture from different subgroups into each because of their proximity. I've seen comprehensive studies on Turkish genetics that say that central Anatolians were a product of a lot of Central Asian settlement, so there are many villages in Central Anatolia that high frequencies of that Central Asian element. Again, during Ottoman times repurposing of people was a common theme, so we only have examples of a few isolated villages that show homogenous results. It is an amalgamation of results really scattered throughout Turkey. For the most part, the western Turkish coast is also similar to that of Aegean peoples because of the original settlement. It is tough to say definitively by region what sorts of genetics exist. It is better to address the different ethnic groups that people identify with to see if the DNA is consistent.

Turks are not half Anatolian Greek. The Turkish ethnogenesis took place in the Central-East Turkey which was inhabited by Syrian, Iranid and Armenian tribes. Which is why they easily adopted Islam even before the arrival of Turks.

First of all, in the first calculator, he shifts towards Cypriots but you have highlighted it as if Cypriots are Greeks- they aren't.

Second, this is clearly a cherry-picked result and I'm pretty sure that if I spended some time on GEDMatch, I would find results of North Africans who have Turks in their top populations.

Third, the Central_Greek sample doesn't have MENA in it, so this means that this Moroccan kinda shifts towards Europe. He also got SW Europe as his first location on PuntDNAL, which proves my point.

I would expected Pontic Greeks as Georgians. Or Like: 50% Greek_Islander + 50% Chechen in 2 population approximations.
Let aside, that was shocking to see they drift more to Mesopotamia than to North Caucasus. They are closer to Assyrian genetically than they are to Lezgin or Circassian, or not even like Georgians. I'm not denying their Greekness, all I said is his DNA was West Asian in reply to your "you are not a Hellenized West Asian" comment. I don't care if he is or isn't considered Greek, but his GEDmatch results show a West Asian origin. It's not my business to say that this makes Pontic Greeks lesser Greeks than Mainland or Aegean Greeks, I was just talking about his DNA. It's easily closer to the Levant and Mesopotamia than to Greece and indicative of West Asian origins.

Isn't really surprising. All pontic greek samples I saw were clustering with Armenians or Lazs or Georgians or even Arabs. But never with greeks.
