Erodogan enjoys great support from the Iraqi Sunni Arab population. Erodgan is seen with positive light and defender of Sunnism from Iran and the West. Erodogan's pictures and portraits often were seen in protests against the Iraqi central government. Quite the majority of Sunni Arab tribes favor the annexation to Turkey, especially now with Kurdish vote for independence. Many Sunni Arab tribes favor Turkey especially in the area of Mosul
Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has once again insisted on the necessity for Turkish involvement in the battle for Mosul, saying Turkey has an "historical responsibility" in the region, referring to Mosul's past as part of the Ottoman Empire.
Speaking at a ceremony in Ankara to mark the start of the academic year on Tuesday, Erdogan said Turkey did not want to be party to any sectarian conflict in Iraq, but voiced his concern for the future of Sunni Arab and Sunni Turkmens in the city.
He voiced warnings against the direct involvement of Shia Muslim militias in the operation following allegations that such militias have committed atrocities against the Sunni population in other parts of Iraq.

It should also be said the Turkish forces were and are continually being welcomed by the various tribal leaders in Mosul, this unlike the Shia militas. Various tribes in Mosul have voiced their Pro-Erdogan/Turkey opinions such as the Tayy, various Shammar clans, Dulaim, and other minor tribes. If you go to Mosul Turkish flags are often flown, with many trying to distance themselves from Iraq, well other tribes favor the Iraqi central government, and with some allied with the Kurds.

It seems that Turkey, Iran, and Jordan/Gulf axies want to share in the spoils of the ill conceived war. However many Sunni Arabs do like Erdogan. Only time will tell what will happen.
