Testing Y67

Currently testing y67 while I wait for my Yelite(end of year). Should be interesting to see where Ftdna places me. LivingDNA currently has me at Z283+ and negative downstream(some 18 major clades tested). How do matches particularly work? If you match at 12 markers vs 37 or 67, what does this mean with regards to your matches?

It's a marker test as opposed to testing snps like Big Y or Yelite I assume. 12 marker matches go as far back as 3,000 years ago. Not everyone will have exact 12 marker matches even if you're plain R1a or whatever so this test is more to determine close relatives. 67 markers is a very close relationship on the direct male line for example.

Exact matches at 111 markers (GD = 0/111) are first cousins.

Matches on 12 are somewhat irrelative even tho you can play with them if you have nothing else :)

On 67 markers you will be able to compare yourself with others pretty decently.

Number of differences between you and guy you are comparing youself to is genetic distance - GD.

For example if you and guy have 5 different markers on Y67 that is genetic distance of 5/67, or matching at 62/67.

Then by checking mutation rate of these markers you can know approximate distance and when common ancestor might have lived.

Also if you match someone close and he already done bigY, you will know your exact subclade..

How do you do that? For example how far back is a 25/25 match. That's all I tested before Big Y

I did Y67, I have only one match distance @7, and 3 matches in Y37 distance @4, seems like a distant relationship, I dont see how we could match.

25/25 is exact match, then you guys need more str markers tested to see on what markers you will get difference and how fast or slow they are..

I guess because of low TMRCA all I1 should have less difference between them, therefore more markers are needed.

Its just my guess.. im not geneticist

I see. Thank you. I heard another individual with same ydna as me from livingdna gets like no matches on ftdna save a few. I wonder if their negative calls downstream of Z283 are accurate. Should be interesting to see who/if I match. I have joined the Albanian DNA Project yes. Our earliest male ancestor was named Destan Koci, born in Okshtuni Vogel in 1700 or so. Oral history claims descend from Pershpalaj clan from Mirdita. Oral history of Orosh claims(according to Albanians I have spoken to) that Pershpalaj were descended of a Pal/Paul, who was a Condottieri from Italy, hired by Skanderbeg and brought to Albania to fight Ottomans. If their oral accounts bare any truth, then I imagine I should match some R1a Italians? probably in the north? Unless it was a woman who married in and the story got lost in translation. Theres also possibility my fathers line descend from Epirus under a Koci clan of possible mixed Albanian and Greek origin. It would explain why we are R1a Ghegs, when the lineage is fairly rare. Perhaps an R1a medieval Slav assimilated into Byzantium? later Albanized? Then again if I am negative downstream Z283, then it could be completely different origin. The Koci clan settled in Arbanas and Moldova where Vasil Lupu(son of Nikolla Koci) ruled as prince(born of a Moldovan mother).

If we didnt change our name from Pershpalaj to Koci, then I imagine a possible connection/branch to the Koci of Epirus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasile_Lupu.

I imagine this, along with Yelite will make some sense of all this?
