Rich:

Finland: Isolate position. Bad climat. Not fertil land. No natural ressource. Bad geopolitical position (near Russia / CCCR). Still they acheive to be one of the most develop nation.

Iceland A bit the same. A middle of nowhere, but the acheive succeess.



Poor

Algeria Tons of natural ressource, fertil land, good climat, near mediteranean sea a bonus for tourism. And they fail.



For me that's just show an evidence. A lot of factors will influence the wealth of a nation. But at the end the quality of the population will play a key role.

Ukraine really surprises me as being corrupted, poor and dysfunctional.

Before 1991 Ukraine was quite functional and rich for Communist standards.

Maybe some nations are really naturally better off under Communism ???
