In Israel it is very common, I guess it happens when you have both genes for high pigmentation and genes for low pigmentation. It is very common color among dark eyed Europeans (mainly southern europeans) and even among west asians.
My father and his younger sisters have hazel eyes (his older brother has azure light blue and his younger brother has green-blue), I guess it's common when you have both light eyed and dark eyed ancestors.

I think it is more common in mixed race nations, I see hazel eyes frequently, footballers like Neymar have it.

You should take a photo with flash..
Hazel eyes would look like Brown&Green mixture under flash.
Although green eyes can contain somme brown/amber and still stay green. If your eyes change color between brown&green, then they are hazel.
If they are always green, then green.

there is light directed to my eyes (that's the real color)..they are yellowish green...not much brown

Your pupil is still dilated so it's very hard to know.
Only with flash and closer look you could determine what is your eye color.
As much as I can guess from the picture you sent they look green and not hazel.

Like DR_2001 said those photos are not good enough to say.
If you have some brown/darker colour close to your pupils...I would keep your eyes Hazel (no matter how green they would look overall)
If you have some yellow/light color close to your pupils...I would keep those eyes green and not hazel (if they are overall green).

Quite common here, my dad and uncle, aunt and grandpa (from mom's side), and my fiance all have/had hazel eyes.
I think they happen when a recent ancestor had blue eyes, like a father or mother, and they can also be inherited (at least that's what happened in my family).
These are my fiances eyes.

Do they look anything like these? Of course your green colour is much deeper (these are lighter with have some blueish shade too)...but I meant that yellow part close to the pupil? There are no brown colour at all.

My dad has hazel eyes.
I think hes mostly scandinavian, even tho one of his brothers and his dad could fit in caucasus.
Over here in germany hazel eyes are very common, but only for people with brown hair.
These people generally are mixed between southern europeans and nordics

Ok. Anyway I would keep those eyes blueish/grayish green. Not hazel. No matter that there is clear yellowish area close to the pupil.

Most likely dark brown (like yours) rather than light, as they are the most common eye color ( dark brown) in Southern Europe as well.

We have inherited a darker eye gene but it wasnt strong enough to make us brown eyed. And thus hazel eyes.
In my case I know exactly where it comes from, parental grandmother(Father's mother) she is brown eyed, the only dark eyed person in the family.

If we talk generally, we mostly have "light" one, i mean, if we look at Aegean, Mediterranean and Marmara regions, mostly light brown,
East and Central Anatolia have dark brown, Thrace and Blacksea mostly have blue/green/hazel

Generally my father has true green and my mother blue.
it depends on the mood I am in, irritated and they turn full green, relaxed and the hints of brown shows more. With accents of grey and blue still present.
But to those that make up the fake rules, my eyes are chestnut color (hazel).
https://www.google.com/search?q=hazel+color+-eye&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi_wPLfxIfXAhUk_IMKHZDDCNQQsAQIJQ&biw=1536&bih=710
Then the ones that make up fake rules tell everyone with multicolored green eyes, they have dark eye color. They are itching to push all green colored eyes to the fake dark colored eyes category.
Do they do this with women dirty blonde hair, you are mostly blonde, but not blonde enough:
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pJs0nrSVLF0/VZeojVyu1KI/AAAAAAAAAVs/-5ZBSmCEhSs/s1600/dirty%2Bblonde%2Bhair.jpg
(The majority of blonde women have hints of brown hair, yet they are still blonde? Interesting)

Makes sense. It's pretty common in France as well. As for me, my father had brown eyes, and my mom has blue/green eyes (her mother had blue eyes). Mine are hazel as you can see (and yes, it's a shifty colour, sometimes they appear greener, sometimes browner, or even yellowish depending on the light). 81294

Looks more green on the pic, though specks of brown are clearly visible.
I have hazel eyes.
My mother has blue eyes, my father hazel, with lots of green. Mine is a bit more brown-green mixed.
My mother has hazel eyes, my father is blue-eyed just like my sister, but mine are brown (almost all members of my extended family have blue / grey / green-ish eyes) including cousins. 1 Grandmother has green eyes (maternal grandma).
