Domino's Pizza bans pork to offer Halal only

Ham, pepperoni, bacon – you'd think no self-respecting pizza menu could do without pork.
But one nationwide chain has decided to dispense completely with the meat - and go 100 per cent halal.
Domino's Pizza has opened its first pork-free store, targeting its mostly Muslim locals and their strict non-pork diets.
The move means customers wanting a Mighty Meaty or Hawaiian pizza will be refused and told to go elsewhere – much to the annoyance of some regulars.
'It's a disgrace, I can appreciate them having it as an option but to have it completely halal is just not on,' said former punter Chris Yates.
'I'm all for racial and religious tolerance but if anything this is intolerant to my beliefs.'
Domino's decided to convert its Hall Green store in Birmingham to halal after a fall in takings. The area has a high Muslim population
. The chain said it appreciated it could not please all its customers but was 'keen to accommodate everybody'.
Pizzas with halal items – such as spicy beef and chicken – will still be available and customers desperate for a pork-topped pizza will be sent to another Domino's store 3km (two miles) away.
Masood Khawaja, of the Halal Food Authority, said: 'We have been delighted to work with Domino's to create its first 100 per cent halal store and welcome it wholeheartedly.'
