Even if that may be true, the point is that Med types in Britain are no more than 5-10% of the native population (depending on the region), whereas in most of France from the Auvergne southwards it is much higher than that.

Maybe not, but they are still closer to them than to the vast majority of Brits. Having said that, it'd be interesting to see (or rather ask) whether a heavily Nordic-looking Brit like Charlie Hunnam or an exotic Italian like Teresa Mannino fits better in France.

They don't have to look southern Italian to not look British. The photos from Bari look like Peloponnesian Greeks.

I didn't say they do. Looking closer to one group than another doesn't mean looking identical to them. Besides, the Northern French - basically from Paris upwards (plus Brittany and some nearby regions too) - do look very similar to the British, but the point is most of France is not like that.

Apulians are the most "Greek" of southern Italians and the southernmost part of the region is Griko speaking, though it's dying out. Bari is further north than the Griko area though.

Poor sample choice. Even those with a French surname might have an Italian/Other grandparent or even parent. Coastal Provence is just an area with a history of heavy immigration, including from other parts of France.
Plus, this specific area should have a Ligurian substrate shared with Northern Italians which is not shared by other inland Southeasterners (mostly Gaul-derived) and by the vast majority of Southern French.
Montélimar, Digne or Gap would have been much better options I think.



This is my opinion, take it or leave it:

Northern and central France look like Dutch, Irish, British, etc. Literally few differences.
Southwest French look like Basques and like neighboring parts of Spain, many Iberian types cannot be found there though (Berid, South Med, etc).
Southeast French look like north Italians, but less Southern European than them, and certainly not like southern Italians or Aegean islanders.

Med input in Northern France is noticeably stronger than in the British Isles and the Netherlands.
Compare these Bretons and Cornish, they are both "Brythonic people" but only one group fits perfectly in France:

Also Southwestern French don't really look like Iberians even in Biarritz or Dax. They sure share some affinities, especially in the Basque region but overall they still look closer to other Southern French than to Iberians. Same thing with Provence and Northern Italy by the way.

Btw, Northern French do look British indeed but only a few look Dutch. They are much lesser Nordic.

The French look different from both other groups. Brits look NW Euro, Italians in this set are mainly Med-West Asian (Armenoid) - Alpine combos, and the French are dominated by Alpine, Dinaric and Mediterranean elements.
