david reimer (august 22 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/august_22), 1965 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1965) as bruce reimer – may 4 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/may_4), 2004 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004)) was a canadian man who was born as a healthy boy, but was sexually reassigned (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/sex_assignment) and raised as female after his penis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/penis) was accidentally destroyed during circumcision (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/circumcision). Psychologist john money (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/john_money) oversaw the case and reported the reassignment as successful, as evidence that gender identity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/gender_identity) is primarily learned. milton diamond (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/milton_diamond) later reported that reimer never identified as female, and that he began living as male at age 14. Reimer later went public with his story to discourage similar medical practices. He committed suicide at the age of 38.

I was wondering how one can "accidentally destroy" it . The answer:

On April 27 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_27), 1966 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1966), doctors performed the circumcision using an unconventional method in which skin would be burned. The procedure did not go as doctors had planned, and Bruce's penis was burned beyond surgical repair.

I saw the first 10 minutes and I've been left speechless - it's incredibly tragic. The doctor should have been shot.

Reminded me of a documentary I saw a while back which showed children born with both male and female genitalia.

Just another example of why circumcision is a bad idea

EXACTLY why circumcision should be outlawed.

What sick parent would even put their baby through such an ordeal?

What sick parent would even put their baby through such an ordeal?

1. Parents who blindly listen to whatever a doctor tells them. (Doctors recommend it because it's a quick way to make a couple hundred bucks)

2. Fathers who don't want to admit that they were harmed by circumcision, so they do it to their sons to feel better about it being done to them.

3. People who put their religion ahead of their child's welfare.

4. Stupid superficial moms who think "it's cuter"

This abusive, mutilatory practice should be banned.

You have to pay for it in Canada. It's not covered under health care because it's cosmetic surgery.

That's true of some American states, but not all.

Hopefully it will be banned some day, but that day is probably several decades away.
