That’s because research has revealed that white men who work out at least 7.5 hours a week are nearly twice as likely to suffer from heart disease.

That is compared to those who exercise a moderate amount so you may want to cancel those gym plans tonight.

The study, which was conducted by a team of scientists from the University of Illinois in Chicago and Kaiser Permanente, looked at exercise patterns over the course of 25 years surveying 3,175 people.

They found very active white men are 86 per cent more likely to have a build-up of plaque in their heart arteries by the time they reached middle age.

But this was not the case for black men.

The high levels of exercise over time puts stress on the arteries and can lead to what is called CAC, higher coronary artery calcification.

This is a warning sign that you may be at risk of developing heart disease and may need to consider early preventive care.

But that doesn’t mean you should put down the weights yet…

Study co-author Dr Jamal Rana, a cardiologist at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland said:

High levels of exercise over time may cause stress on the arteries leading to higher CAC.

However this plaque buildup may well be of the more stable kind, and thus less likely to rupture and causes heart attack, which was not evaluated in this study.

It does not suggest that anyone should stop exercising.

These people were split into three groups based on their physical activity patterns.

Group one exercised below the national guidelines of less than 150 minutes a week, group two met these guidelines and group three exercised three times above the national guidelines, over 450 minutes a week.

Those in the last group were 27 per cent more likely than those in the first group to develop CAC by middle age.

The study also found that white men were at the highest risk being 86 per cent more likely to have CAC.

There were no higher odds of CAC for black participants in group three.

Although there was a similar trend for white women, it was not statistically significant.

"Dr Jamal Rana" conducts medical tests only on white and blacks? This is pseudo science with social engineering intent. Popular science is social engineering, no layperson has the time or resources to conduct a peer review, so why even consume this garbage?

How is it pseudoscience?

How is it pseudoscience?

Are black and whites the only relevant races? Why not conduct test on Asians Indians, mestizoes etc? Especially when your last name is Rana, why care about exercise effect on white and Black, but not your own?

No, they aren't the only relevant races, but they were used for this study. The study only compared blacks and whites and only made conclusions based on these two groups. The study would have been better if it included other races, but it didn't. That doesn't mean that what it did so far is all junk (unless proven otherwise) though.

This article is on many websites, it is pseudo-science nonsense, they don't want strong white men.

Commenting on this finding, the researchers write:

"The finding that fitness is related to development of subclinical changes in myocardial structure and function, but not CAC, sheds light on potential mechanistic benefits of exercise in youth not captured by CAC."
They add that they "were surprised to find that fitness (or its change over time) was not associated with the extent or the presence of CAC in long-term follow-up."

CAC is directly related to heart disease which afflicts each race equally almost.

Coronary Artery Calcium
Coronary artery calcium score (CAC) is a computed tomography-based assessment of calcium deposits in the arteries and is used as a surrogate for CHD. Increasing CAC can be used as a predictor for CHD events [38]. The MESA cohort has produced many studies involving race and CAC. It has been observed that whites of both sexes consistently had a higher likelihood of detectable CAC compared to other race-ethnic groups [38–40]. There were differences in CAC by race which depended on age and gender. In women, Hispanics had the lowest CAC except in the oldest groups where the Chinese subjects had the lowest scores. In men, Hispanics had the second highest percentiles. At younger ages, blacks had the lowest CAC while Chinese were lowest at older age groups. While non-white or non-Hispanic status appeared to be associated with a lower CAC score, the transition from no CAC to new detection of multi-vessel CAC over a 10-year follow-up was more common in African-Americans and Hispanics

Did they take DNA tests? What is black what is white? Black and White is not a race or an ethnicity.
