South Korea is Vietnam’s largest investor. Due to the huge amount of business being conducted between the 2 countries, there are over 100,000 Koreans living and working in Vietnam. Some of them have gone back to Korea and opened up Vietnamese restaurants. Pho is super popular amongst Koreans, and there are many restaurants offering Vietnamese cuisine in Seoul.

This reality show showcases a Korean opening a Vietnamese restaurant in S Korea, lol

Food can be very subjective. Korean food can be an acquired taste if you’re not used to it, but I personally love it. It could be I just like Asian food in general.

In any case, here is a video where a Vietnamese guy stops by a bánh mě place in Seoul. Bánh mě are Vietnamese sandwiches, and it is a result of fusion of Vietnamese cuisine with French influence.

Americans seems to love Vietnamese food I've witnessed, they seem to love it much more than say Filipino food for example. I even tried Malaysian/Indonesian food once and was surprised how delicious it was, but still Americans seem to love Japanese/Chinese/Thai/Viet cuisine much more acceptingly. Plus these days many Koreans are living and immigrating to the Philippines...to them Philippines is like an exotic summer vacation destination and many are now settling in the Manila area.. I grew up in the US and Filipino food is just not very popular at all..there are indeed a few restos which have opened shop in Chicago but most of the customers there tend to just be ethnic Filipinos themselves rather than non.

I also tried Malaysian/Indonesian food once and was pleasantly surprised how much more it appealed to me than Thai cuisine.

Northern Vietnamese cuisine is becoming a big culinary trend in South Korea.

“Vietnamese food franchises have been sprouting up all over the peninsula this year, with cuisine from the northern part of the Southeast Asian country changing the food culture in Korea.

Pho has long been popular here but the arrival of Emoi in 2015 generated long lines of Koreans with a new appetite for Hanoi-style pho and bun cha.”

“Northern Vietnam cuisine has skyrocketed in popularity in the last year for three of the chains, and none have plans to slow down.

There’s almost always a line of people under the bright-yellow sign outside Bun Cha Ra Boom in Hannam-dong, waiting patiently in the cordoned-off area to get in.

Demand for the northern Vietnamese cuisine has been high since the franchise entered the market this summer with its first location. Its fourth branch, in Gwanghwamun, is the latest and opened last month.”
