Is flag worshiping dumb?

I never understood why people get so emotional about a flag. Its just a piece of clothing cotton polyester whatever it is but it just sounds silly to me. People die to put a flag or take down a flag, burn a flag, defend a flag. People carry flags on their homes cars etc i never found it of any importance this piece of cotton let alone getting emotional about it.

sentimental ppl also praise & worship a piece of "almighty" stone.. so what? You can't change human nature like you can't change animal instincts..
