Come suck my Metal Machine !!!

Sabaton are a great Power Metal band from Southern Sweden (Valhalla for that style of Metal). I don't like the screechy, high-pitched vocals usually associated with that genre, so Joakim Brodén's vocals are a refreshing chance of pace to me, at least. I like them because they seem to be both 100% seriously into metal and yet having a laugh at the same time.

Try to see how many references to classic metal albums/songs you can pick up.

This video is messed up

Classic example though.. Woman gets violated by a man she or her husband probably knew or were acquainted with in some way whether good or bad.. Husband comes home after a hard day's hunting, to see his wife cleaning herself of the 'evidence'.. Husband understood what happened and went out to track the assailant in the snow tracks he left behind.. Husband eventually comes upon him shortly after he encounters a slaughtered settlement... And enacts his husbandly right.. but is overcome by the much larger, sword wielding rapist..

Don't worry about being anal with the sub genre thing mate, if you think that it's metal- power/prog/darkambient/blackmetal/gothrock/instrumentals, whatever just post it up. Also maybe interesting stuff you might've heard about bands too.

Haven't heard any Burning Witch though I keep meaning to but still need to track it down. Have you heard Khanate's 2009 release yet? I haven't but its definitely on my list of 09 releases to get. As for Axis, I've heard The Ichneumon Method but I don't like it as much as Deleted Scenes. Deleted Scenes is just so brilliantly creepy its tough to beat.

Cythraul, haha I may not be the hugest Mercyful Fate fan but Don't Break the Oath is a great album and Gypsy is my absolute favourite song off it and probably one of my all-time favourite songs. I've never really understood the hype over the bands associated with this whole thrash "resurgence" like Toxic Holocaust, Lich King, Evile etc. etc. Its not that I think such bands are totally horrible (well, perhaps maybe Evile being a bit of a snorefest, and a few others like Gama Bomb, Gammacide, Bonded By Blood etc.) but that they're mostly just overrated for what they are (particularly talking about Toxic Holocaust and Lich King here).

Most of these bands are trying way too hard to "be thrash" than really making great music to have some, well, good friendly violent fun to :P They'll never have the grit that Sadus, Morbid Saint, Massacra, or Ptk era Kreator used to. There are some great newer bands that are putting out some awesome gritty shit today, but most just seem to be trying too hard, imo.

There are a few Aussie bands I enjoy quite a bit but aren't as associated with the new "movement", particularly Trench Hell which I couldn't find on youtube unfortunately but their debut is available for a decent price over at Hells Headbangers for those interested. These guys just sound like they're kickin back and having a good time. Anyways, that's my "rant" on the matter :P

Those who said that it's really mediocre are correct. Basically, it was full of dull, repetitive, and directionless filler tracks. There are a few tracks on there that have their moments (the first and the last two or three) but then whatever potential ideas he had in those few tracks he pretty much slaughtered. A lot of them were just really needlessly drawn out, and he didn't manage to expand on any of his riff ideas. To boot, while some of those riff ideas may have started out with potential, they weren't interesting or atmospheric enough to merit repeating for eight minutes, that is for sure.

Attention all Black Metal fans of Satanic Warmaster:
I'm curious of your opinions on Nazgul's (Or Vince Venom, haha) side project Armour. If you're not aware, it's a traditional metal/glam-esque band he formed in '06. It's quite a shock seeing him dressed like this:
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d189/Amodeus_308/Misc/Armourl_86bf6d6f5fb22bc1088d1740dfa.jpg
He entered some sort of Finnish television band competetion with this video:

I think this song is better though:

Why?!? :P

I'd never heard this before. Definitely unexpected though not entirely so. Honestly, when the first song started and the vocals first kicked in my mind immediately thought "You're in the jungle, baby!" followed by the thought of Bon Scott belting out TNT. The second song isn't terrible, but I think the first just won a place among the cheesiest music videos ever! Past the initial "its-so-ridiculous-I-can't-help-but-laugh" aspect, the glam cringe factor is too...present and they should have left that ghost in its grave. The world does not need more zebra print spandex, cod pieces, and glam :P

Armour won the Alphard Sound Technology band contest 2007 and were thus given an endorsement deal from Alphard Sound Technology, as well as a promotion deal from Dragonight Agency that hosts bands like Hirax, Sabbat (JAP) and Metalucifer.

Armour was choosen in the national main tv network competition as the third best demoband from finland in 2008, as well as the best metal demo band.

Wow, apparently they won the competition :icon_lol:

Those who said that it's really mediocre are correct. Basically, it was full of dull, repetitive, and directionless filler tracks. There are a few tracks on there that have their moments (the first and the last two or three) but then whatever potential ideas he had in those few tracks he pretty much slaughtered. A lot of them were just really needlessly drawn out, and he didn't manage to expand on any of his riff ideas. To boot, while some of those riff ideas may have started out with potential, they weren't interesting or atmospheric enough to merit repeating for eight minutes, that is for sure.

That's what I was expecting. Typical, repetative black metal with little feeling. It's a shame, their other work is damn good.

lol yeah it was quite a shock when I first found it. I must admit though I like the classic metal sound, not too bad imo. But damn he should've thought up a different appearance/theme for the band :p.

It always amuses me how Fenriz managed to release two different songs with two different bands using the same main riff in both, and released in the same year at that:p No disrespect, though it is a catchy fucking riff. The guy is one of my favourite musicians and either way Quintessence remains one of my favourite Darkthrone songs:cool:

Really? I love those bands. I wonder what the Kreator guys would think of their old friend Phlegethon hanging around on forums like this one. The last couple of times I've seen Kreator play they've given a big speech about eradicating racism.

Phlegethon
09-18-2009, 08:45 AM
As I am not a racist it does not really matter to me. Usually once bands have reached a certain popularity it is a marketing strategy to jump on the anti-racist bandwagon. The band members came from the worst part of town and two of them were Italian, which in Germany won't get you exposed to any racist sentiment, anyway. The drummer is German and has recently opened a tattoo studio on skid row.

Freomæg
09-18-2009, 10:12 AM
Wasn't suggesting you're racist Phlegethon. Most of us here would consider ourselves non-racist. But the public perception of a European Preservationism forum would be that it is unnacceptable. Maybe to the Kreator guys, maybe not.

Scorpions sucked after Uli Jon Roth left, though. But they are playing here in two weeks, with Uli as a special guest and also Michael Schenker. I can only hope for those who have tickets that Michael does not fall off the stage. He never seems to get his drug/alcohol issues under control.

Phlegethon

Last time I saw Uli and Michael on stage was at Castle Donington in 2001, which was taped and released on CD as well as DVD. I do not follow Michael Schenker's career that thoroughly, but I have been told that his studio releases are getting better and better again, while his live performances show him to be well beyond his prime. Still a great musician and a composer, but definitely second to Uli whom I have seen play live last year with his Swedish wife and his daughter. Great show, nice, almost familiar, atmosphere. And he shall be back soon!

Silence and darkness the species of man is extinct

Hmm, I saw them at Wacken 2006 and it was quite fun actually, and the sound was not that bad. Oh and the chicks with the "blood" water pistols were a plus!

I agree with PlaeghDraegher on this one. Manowar is without doubt one of the gayest metal bands ever.
Let's see what you sissies think about this single man project. Primitive, raw, and hypnotic black metal from Sweden.

Well, not my favourites musically, but certainly in content and nationality, I have to start with fellow countrimen.

Primordial, 2007, "Heathen Tribes":

A1_b4OWqeZsThis is my church, it stands so tall and proud, it has done for all time
It has no walls, yet its vast halls reach from shore to shore
To whatever shore you know as your own, we stand as one, we stand alone
We are born from the same womb, hewn from the same stone

From the frozen Baltic; I watched sunrise over Athena
Walked the battlefields of Flanders; and saw duskfall at Sintra
Beneath the spires of Sofia; fields of crosses at Arnhem
Arminius stood tall in Teutoburg; Senatus Populusque Romanus

To the fjords of Hordaland; shadows of ancient Albion
At the shore of a 1000th lake; Saint Vitus dance in Praha
Yet when to Ireland we return, I know that I am home at last
And every sun that sets takes me closer to her Earth.

Since Rotting Christ's new album Aealo leaked recently, I thought this thread needed a bit more of them.

New album was pretty meh, had Neamtheanga, Daemonium Nymphe, and Diamanda Galas on it though. Cool stylistic direction, but in the end the writing was pretty lackluster and leaves one desiring something more in that vein. That something happens to be Theogonia, their 2007 album.

From the latest Korpiklaani album:

RyftMcsDeoQ

:p Eat this, Google Translate:

Uniaika

Oli aika ammoinenki,
uniaika unohettu,
kaukoaika kammottuki,
mennyt mieli menetetty.

Sitä tiesin sitä taisin,
sitä kauvan akttelinki,
Sitä elin elämäni
koinpa kuolla kuolemani
Mitä tiesin, mitä taisin?

Jotta saatoin kerran kuolla,
täyty vastaan hangotella.

Mitä tiesin mitä taisin?
Mitä lienin taittamatta?
Mikä Miunki vahvaks' saatto?
Kerro miulle, sitten tiiän.

Onko kasvot ihtelleni,
kehtailenko niitä kahtoo?
Onko kasvot ihtelleni,
tunnenko sen naamakseni?
Onko kasvot ihtelleni?

Jotta saatoin kerran kuolla,
täyty vastaan hangotella.
Taivaankannet paukutella,
kirjokansi kalkutella.
Taivaankannet paukutella,
kirjokansi kalkutella.

Eli kauvan, kauvan kahtoin,
kauvan saatoin tunteakki,
kovan koulun kiskuella,
kovan varren vänkytellä.
"Miul on kasvot isolleni,
miull on kasvot emolleni"

Yöhyt tumma minnuu verhoo,
kauhut paljo pelottelloo,
mutta päivä paistaviki,
koittaviki risukasahan.

Motörhead - Poison
3GugzH8CWtM

People tell me you didn't know better,
Give me sermons 'bout the things I do,
Come to love 'em, even wrote letters,
You know I even asked it of you, I said,
I've been doing Poison,
I guess I poisoned my life,
I've been doing Poison,
it's better than marrying your wife

On the road, the pace is getting frantic,
Specially when your poisoned out your mind,
A flight of stairs is like swimming the Atlantic,
When you're poisoned, deaf, dumb and blind,
I take my poison,
I guess I poisoned my life,
I wish I was poisoned,
I wish I'd Poisoned my wife

My Father, he used to be a Preacher,
Never taught me nothing but scorn,
If I ever catch him on the street, yeah,
I'll make him wish he'd never been born,
He was Poison,
I know he poisoned my life
He was Poison,
I wish my mother wasn't his wife
