African Americans are prone to being overweight and store fat regardless of diet and exercise: Some 8% carry a gene that causes calories to remain in tissues rather than being burned off
Researchers from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill found the mutated ankyrin-B gene makes mice double in size, regardless of their diet. Only 1.3 percent of Caucasians carry it.

African Americans are more prone to obesity as eight percent carry a gene that stores calories
Genetic mutation causes excess weight gain regardless of diet or exercise levels
The gene, ankyrin-B, results in calories being stored in tissues, not burned off
It may have evolved in ancestors during times of famine, but is not needed now
Just 1.3% of Caucasians carry this mutation, making them less at risk of obesity
Mutated gene makes mice twice as large
