Southern Europe.

Aegean islands, Peloponnese, Cyprus, and central-southern Italy. Unsurprisingly, Crete is the first choice in the poll and also the genetically closest one along with Dodecanese.

Everything else is a stretch.

Why didn't you vote for Sardinia ?

I expected Iberia and Sardinia even to get some more votes

They could pass in areas of Greece but to me they look distinctly Sicilian. I have to say Aegean Islanders fit but not sure about the majority of Peloponnesians and a lesser number of Epirotes.

Some particular types of Sicilians remind me strongly of looks you find in the Peloponese for example among
people from Mani or Tsakonians.

I don't see that they always are more similar to East Greeks ,Aegean Islands because alot of Sicilians look Med strong to me but
not so much East or Aegean Med but rather West Med.
Dinaro and Alpine Meds seem also well presented in Sicily.

Probably Crete is a good match for them as a whole,no doubt.

Phoenician and Levantine/North African influence in Sicily is real and shows up in some Sicilian looks but its wrong in my opinion
to generalize that there aren't other familar looks in Sicily who have nothing likely.

Sicilians get to often and easily passed here as Armenoids or East Meds ,it exists there but its overrated to the same degree
similarities with European Western Mediteranean people are underated.

I have seen for example similarities between Sicilians and Sardinians never been realy discussed here and they seem to be
underestimated.

Though Sikeliot mentioned it a couple of times

It's a good picture. I would say around 70-80% of Sicilians look like general (West) Med types or Alpinized types, so they will overlap well with Sardinians, despite Sicilians being a bit lighter in pigmentation. The rest is basically a mix of northern light types, more Greek looking types (also present in the 80% majority) and exotic West Asian types.

Sikeliot exaggerates the exoticness of Sicilians. I agree exotic types do exist, but they aren't so prevalent as he says.

From my understanding, Sicilians are in general close (in both phenotype and genotype) to all of those islands: Crete, Dodecanese, and to a lesser extent Cyclades.

Similarities to the Peloponnese exist, but less so than to any of those island chains. However, Sicilians look significantly more like Peloponnesians than they look like people in northern Greece.

Part of the reason I emphasize the exotic phenotypes are because they are higher in Palermo and Messina where my ancestry is from. In other parts of Sicily like Syracuse, Ragusa, or Enna you won't find them as frequently, but most of the photos I see and post are from Palermo. There is some Norman input in Palermo but there is a strong Levantine and Caucasian influence there that shows.

The more I explore phenotypes in the Peloponnese and compare them to Sicilians I'm less convinced there is more than a vague resemblance. Peloponnesian Greeks resemble Central and Northwest Greeks more than Sicilians.

Whats your point here ?

You want to troll me and cause flame wars.?

I think the main problem here are sometimes certain conceptions and obsessions with Greeks people.

Some people claim that Greeks North from Peloponnese look totaly alien from Sicilians and Greek Islanders and try to force
Greeks to make idiot divisions among Greek people.

I don't see a problem or a contradiction with saying that Peloponnesians have similarity with both other Mainland Greeks
further North and other Non Mainland Southern Greeks and also with parts of Siclian and Italian people.

If its a problem for you,for me its not

And i don't think Peloponnesians look more Balkan than regular Non Mena like South Italian
This has absolutely nothing to do with NW Greeks or Central Greeks.

Since Balkan as a whole is something different.
