The calculator says you're an Anglo. Some anglos have med influence in them. You're one of them, it's not like you have any recent med admixture in you.

Im no expert but based on the calc results u presented I would think its possible you have distant Jew ancestry, or otherwise populations that cluster close to them eg South Italian .

Seems to be a bit more than that, he's getting 16-19% Ashkenazi. He's probably that with the remainder being British.

23andme is the best genetic test for people with Jewish ancestry, i recommend it if you are interested but you certainly have some, probably between 1/4-1/8 like others already said.

Except for the simple fact dodecad has some muttish references, the Scandinavian for example per people used for it, there's a possibility you don't have Jewish ancestry. These tests, like with 23&me, can't separate legitimate Jewish from certain similar populations at low enough levels. Been implied over & over again when 23&me can't identify Italian, for example, from Ashkenazi as lower levels. They don't tell you that in the 'fine print' because it doesn't sell.

If you did have Jewish ancestry, at the level indicated, you should have a number of relatives with obvious Jewish surnames because of the segregation and intermarriage. Do you? If you don't, then it's confusing some Mediterranean type or some other type ancestry as "Jewish".

If you did have Jewish ancestry, at the level indicated, you should have a number of relatives with obvious Jewish surnames because of the segregation and intermarriage. Do you? If you don't, then it's confusing some Mediterranean type ancestry as "Jewish".

I have GEDmatch relatives with names like Silverman, Friedman, Rosenthal etc. But I don't think that's a guarantee that they're Jewish

Just so you know some Brits - Welsh in particular - can have DNA that is "similar" Jewish or Ashkenazi DNA. I've a Welsh friend who gets "Jewish" everywhere, she's not. Balkan can be confused too. Mediterranean can be mistaken as Jewish.

As Dick said these estimates are not set in stone [they merely judge the best fit]. A better bet to find answers is possibly turn to your genetic relatives. It may take time, and you might not get any immediate response, but there's always that option. Possibly more accurate to boot.

If you have Jewish in you I would imagine its distant considering its not been picked up as Jewish in most of the Commercial sites you tried.
As for surname matches are you referring to Ydna or autosomal, if they are Ydna I think it depends what match level they are , like I think 12 level matches practically just show people who have same Haplogroup with possible minimal relatedness, for me I get 12 level matches on FTDNA from Russians to Brits, and many countries from all over Europe, surnames range through many ethnicities, but because they are 12 level matches I dont

Doesn't necessitate he's Jewish even by mt-dna. There's some shared between Jewish & non-Jewish. K1a1b1a, for example, is found in non-Jewish populations.


He should try asking his genetic relatives if they know anything. It might tell him some of his family history, stories, etc., maybe even why he ended up being adopted. In this sense of ancestry that's not something DNA can do.

So, I'm far more Jewish genetically than you, and that the reason why you have genetic relations with the Ashkenazim is simply because of shared Mediterranean genes rather than direct Jewish ancestry.

I think you hve to spend some $ to do your mtdna but if you do it you will also get matches, you can always see if you get a lot of Jewish matches.
The weird thing is I did my Mtdna through FTDNA , I get probably mostly British matches but also I get 67 mtdna Sephardic and 45 Ahskenazi matches through mtdna, no commercial site or calculator rates my DNA as Jewish, but I put my MTDNA results in a sephardic mtdna project group and the moderators looked at my mtdna results and classified them as "most likely sephardic". One person suggested I may have had a Spanish sephardic ancestor who emigrated to Britain during Spanish inquisition but then probably married British person and the line continued to water down and become more Brit. I would suggest u try Mtdna test at FTDNA , they are a Jewish owned company and probably could be helpful in identifying any Jews in the woodpiles.

What does a full blooded Ashkenazi Jewish persons GEDmatch results look like so I can compare and try to estimate a percentage? The reason I say that is I've heard full blooded Ashkenazi Jews do not get 100% Ashkenazi on tests.

Most calcs give me between 20% and like 40%. Jtest says 24%, the one that gives me the most is Ancient Eurasia K6 that says I'm almost 65% "Iranian_Jewish"

You have a reasonable Ashkenazi component , I wouldnt be suprised if u have some level of Jewish ancestry, either that or something like southern Italian.

Seems to be a bit more than that, he's getting 16-19% Ashkenazi. He's probably that with the remainder being British.
