These are sea peoples and you really can't classify them. A Sardinian on here said they were probably Sardinians because the word Rameses II uses for a group of sea peoples he defeated is 'Sherden/Shardana'

We know for sure that Sardinia was named by Phoenicians something like Shardana, we don't know the exact pronounce since they didn't write the vowels. But when they reached our island around XIth century b.C. they named it Šrdn in the same way ancient Egyptians named the Sea Peoples "Sherden" (also ancient Egyptians didn't write the vowels). So we have a lot of Phoenician inscriptions in Sardinia with this Šrdn and we can only guess the pronounce like : Shardana, Shardania, Sherdenia or something similar.
Since Phoenicians were skilled sailors and explorers; it's plausible that when they reached our island they knew very well who were the inhabitants of the island because they knew very well the Sea Peoples that 1 or 2 centuries before razed the middle east; when they found that the island was inhabited by one of those peoples they consequently named the island Shardana.
