I think he passes in Calabria,Greece,Cyprus,Western Turkey"Aegean Turkey",Levant is also possible
Anopolis is in Sfakia the region is an arid Area in the mountains and was never fully under
Turkish controll.
People there are said to come from Dorians and speak a Greek dialect related to ancient Dorian

Not Agreed. Western Turkey is Yörük who are sharply different than this man in look with some Balkan settlers around who are also sharply different.

many parts of Greece, were either independent/autonomous, or part of Venice, but do you imply that there are bioloigcal differences between these parts and parts fully controlled by ottos?

Yes very good.
Its a tradition there.
The Cretan mountains grow alot of different herbs that can be used for honey.
