Poland signs five-year deal for US gas supplies

Polish gas giant PGNiG and British energy company Centrica have signed a five-year deal for the supply of nine shipments of US Liquefied Natural Gas to Poland, PGNiG has said.

PGNiG CEO Piotr Woźniak said that as of 2018, nine shipments from the Sabine Pass LNG Terminal in Louisiana to the Świnoujście LNG Terminal in Poland's northwest would be made.

"Preceded by the long-term contract for LNG deliveries from Qatar and several [one-off] deliveries in 2017, this agreement shows that we are stepping into a new level of global LNG market activity," Woźniak said, adding that the US gas would be competitively priced.

Poland started receiving monthly shipments of gas after the Świnoujscie terminal opened in late 2015, and in 2017 received a one-off shipment of LNG from the US.
“This agreement is the first of its kind in PGNiG’s planned portfolio of medium-term LNG agreements. Most of these LNG supply agreements will be dedicated to the gas markets of Poland and other Central European countries in order to increase the energy security of this region, which has historically been dominated by Russian gas

Woźniak also said that the new deal would aim to diversify "the gas markets of Poland and other Central European countries in order to increase the energy security of this region, which has historically been dominated by Russian gas". (vb/pk)
